Actually, a brief correction to averageguy's post in that the urinary tract is in fact sterile.
However, as pointed out, str8's have anal sex too. Condoms help with protection from getting urinary tract infections (UTI). Also, while anal sex does increase this risk, it helps that the male urethra is longer than the female's so it is more difficult to get a UTI. Not impossible, but the bacteria have to go a longer distance to get to the bladder. But condoms are best... if in an LTR, then we can chat about other ways if you're barebacking.
And yeah, yeah, you can get anal fissures of course. But if you don't about getting rammed in the ass, it is less likely. You can get anal fissures from a lot of things, not just anal sex (and your mom knows this). As long as it is normal anal sex, it shouldn't be a problem.
Tell her she's right in that you can choose your sexual behavior. But ask her if she wants to have a son who isn't true to himself... because being with a woman would be exactly that.
It's a bit surprising that she's an MD and thinks that sexual orientation is a choice. Tell her to point you to some scientifically valid information that shows that sexuality is a choice b/c she's not going to be able to find it. But she should find lots of info explaining that it isn't a choice and that accepting it is far healthier than trying to change it.
And I'm glad you didn't tell her sooner... it would have only screwed you up with being able to accept it. You're handling things well. She needs to revisit her medical texts.... well, maybe not the ones back when they thought it could be changed... but the more recent articles.
