So Long

Hey! I live in Portland!

I'll be looking for you in all the cool places, Simon.

I love Portland and always seem to have a fun time there. It always brings to mind the Loretta Lynn/Jack White duet:

Well Portland Oregon and sloe gin fizz
If that ain't love then tell me what is
Well I lost my heart it didn't take no time
But that ain't all. I lost my mind in Oregon

In a booth in the corner with the lights down low
I was movin' in fast she was takin' it slow
Well I looked at him and caught him lookin' at me
I knew right then we were playin' free in Oregon

Next day we knew last night got drunk
But we loved enough for the both of us
In the morning when the night had sobered up
It was much too late for the both of us in Oregon

Well sloe gin fizz works might fast
When you drink it by the pitcher and not by the glass
Hey bartender before you close
Pour us one more drink and a pitcher to go

And a pitcher to go

If you see my sister, say hey.

Lex

I kept an eye out, but I didn't see her. :(

Simon, the California lottery is now at $76,000,000 - i bought $5.00 worth of tickets today. Should i win anything over $500,000 i shall help with your tuition.

I hope you win because I don't know how I'll pay for it otherwise. ;)

I'll be looking for you in all the cool places, Simon.

I wasn't in any of the cool places... except Powell's.

I know a good Arts Council Director.
When you are ready to exhibit, I will put in a good word for you.
Good luck in Portland, is it OR or ME or some other Portland?
Shep+

Portland, OR. :D

So, I'm back... if you hadn't guessed. The school is great, very mellow and unpretentious, but still well organized and definitely not flaky.

They have a large printmaking studio with a full range of presses, including a printing press. I won't be majoring in printmaking, but I was privileged enough to work with a renowned printmaker when I was younger and I'd like the chance to do some more. I also love typography so the printing press is very exciting to me.

The design department, where I'd spend most of my time, is well equipped and up-to-date. There's some focus on green printing, something I'm interested in, and teamwork (always a plus). Seniors are required to do an internship with a local design company and can either apply for the coveted spots (Nike, Adidas, etc.) or they can go with smaller firms, which I would probably do.

I think I want to go, but I need to think about cost, housing and some other things. I should be able to get a lot of financial aid, though.

Hey! glad you had a good time and found someplace that you'll feel comfortable with, now hopefully the money thing will work out and you'll be able to go. ;)

Thank you. I won't be attending until Fall 2008 (I want to wait until my co-parent graduates from nursing school) so there's a bit of time to iron out the details.

It sounds like a wonderful opportunity for developing your skills as well as yourself. I hope you're able to take advantage of it!

I thought this was going to be another thread about dick size ("so long").

Portland is one of my favorite cities, and I've visited there many times. I've never thought of it as wild, however, although it has wild beauty.

Will you be studying fine art? I took quite a few art classes when I was getting my design degree, and I very much enjoyed all of them. My brother got his MFA from SUNY Albany, and he's now doing comic book art. Have you thought about what your interests are for a career?

I'll be studying Communications Design (Graphic Design). The school offers a General Fine Arts Degree with a customizable curriculum and I may choose that so I can focus on Illustration, as well. Or I may just go for the Communications Design major.

I've been working in the Graphic Design field for about 7 years and I love it. I'd like to start up a small design firm that focuses on Green Printing and affordable design services. I've talked to my brother about going into business with me once he's done with school (he's on a PhD track in Applied Mathematics). He's a design geek, too.

I'm also interested in publishing (I've worked for 2 newspapers), but I'm not sure if I want such a high-stress career. I'd like to publish something like George Magazine.

I draw and write comics in my spare time (of which there is little), but I don't see myself doing that as a full-time career. You never know, though.

the title of the thread had my heart skipping a beat!

Simon good luck with art school! At least Portland is not too far from away from the OP!
