This would be relevant if Zuko didn't actually end up becoming a hero. Good try though.
It would be good if it was just a try. It may have been a success.
I think it's enough, for certain ignorant and/or susceptible audiences, that he even requires
redemption. This reinforces a colonizer/manifest destiny (save the savages from themselves) dialectic/rationale/mentality that motivates even modern travesties such as Iraq. I wish we lived in a world where fictional characters and the idiots who cast their real-life doubles didn't have so much power, but they do and they clearly abused it. Having minorities in villain/dark angel roles in the media may even be documented for its prejudicing effects.
Although Asia is lucky to have been spared the proverbial Rooseveltian "Big Stick" (phallic much? lol, there's a whole lot of bullshit about analyzing the sexual undertones, some homosexual, of the colonizer dynamic), there's still room for the US to fuck up (*cough* China *cough* North Korea *cough*). While I believe there's legitimacy in the concerns for the way things are run in countries like those, we Americans have a misguided tendency to hurt when we help. We think we have all the answers, and we don't (especially not me, I can't even pass history). People who have suffered under these regimes probably have the best idea of what should be done about the regime they've only know for ummm... ALL THEIR LIVES. Bringing it back to topic, Zuko in the cartoon (not gonna watch the movie) can be an exemplar of this. He shows very valuable internal knowledge of the Fire Nation and suggest the better solution to defeating his own Father. Aang was stupid, risking the fucking world for his fucking conscious. Disney morals aren't flame retardants, just retarded.
Aang though, was a lot like the US is, and will be if we keep feeding ourselves this manifest mentality crap. He ignores a perfectly reasonable solution from the person who has the most investment in the enemy, and risks everything just to maintain his hippie pacifist values. Yay!!! You fucking spared the motherfucking firelord!! W00T!!! Now... can you explain the people he charbroiled in your honor? Of course it didn't turn out like that, but it could've. Zuko was right, with his overly sexy voice actor. God his voice and looks are too fucking sexy to be wrong. I digress... from my digression.
God, I have no problem with ignorance. I'm very ignorant myself. It's willful ignorance and the presentation of your societally supported ignorance as the higher knowledge that irks me. I think the way women are treated in many (not all) Arab communities is atrocious, but I am in no way qualified to be the authority voice to tell them to repent. And that condescension! What is it with people here? Jeez. Yet another reason I hate my generation. I hate how we praise people for their wit and "keeping it real". That shit ain't nothing more than an unnecessarily rude power trip, phallic ego stroking behind the curtain of internet anonymity!
Good try though. You made me waste my time on this shit nobody will read instead of preparing for lab.
Somebody let me know how that Eurocentric train wreck turns out. Hope there are survivors.
FEEL MEH!
