  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

So what dose your heritage consist of ?

just curious...do white people, especially white people who live in urban areas, feel bland because there are so many mixed people around...i mean, are u proud to say, for example, "i'm a wasp" or do you "ethnicize" it...?? or am i getting a mistaken impression of the makeup of the rest of the country?

I think it depends...

Euro-mutt.

1/8 Dutch, 1/8 Norwegian, 1/2 or more English, the rest is Swiss/German, Scottish and American Indian (Choctaw).

Fully Italian from the Naples area, mother born here..father in Italy.

Father Welsh - Mother Hungarian.

Does that make me Well Hung?? :D :D (!) (!) (!) :D :D

"2nd generation Amedrican": father's ancestry-Polish
mother's ancestry-Austrian

Legacy [maternal and paternal] alcoholism and diabetes...and, yes, I'm dealing with both: in recovery for 11 years and on meds.

As the lyric from Follies has it, "I'm still here!" ;)

Well, let's see... on my father's side, I'm Chinese, Irish, German, Dutch, and Norwegian; culturally we're Amurrican with Chinese decorations, like macaroni and cheese served with chopsticks. My mother was adopted, but we've decided to believe she is Slavic, perhaps Romanian; culturally, however, she was brought up WASP.

Have you noticed that all us European-descent types claim all sorts of different micronationalities instead of just "white," or even getting into proper ethnotypes like Germanic, Nordic, Slavic, Semitic, or Mediterranean? I mean, like there's any real difference between Irish, German, and Dutch, genetically speaking. It's how we spice up our blandness.

james

I can't really say that I'm "Proud" to be a WASP ... it's just what I am! Like my being Gay, it's not something I chose, or accomplished, on my own. However, I can say that I'm "Proud" to live, by choice, in the most diverse neighborhood in my city! ..|

Most of the other neighborhoods have a tendancy to "feature", as a majority of residents, a given Ethnicity. Similar peoples tend to migrate toward those most like themselves. Where I live, though, it's more like a true "Melting Pot", and we all cherish, and promote, a vibrant "Mix"! (group)

The thing I notice most is how varying people react to each other until they get to know each other as Individuals. Yes ... we tend to interact, at first, given our own internal Stereotypes. I mean ... the only information you initially have are surface impressions. But ... the more "different" people you meet, the more you find your expectations expanding, and becoming more "realistic" through experience. But ... yes ... in some areas of the city I feel like I stand out like a sore (pale) thumb!

I only wish the rest of the World could be more like "Sherman Park"!!

Keep smilin'!! (*8*)
Chaz ;)

There is a genetic difference within 'Celtic' descendants, i.e. where Gaelic is spoken, recent DNA tests show a link between language, DNA and settlement patterns. However, the description of 'Celtic' is still ambiguous, some archaeologists arguing it to be a purely 'cultural' - i.e. shared belief system rather than a population per se.

I'm a mutt too - Irish, Welsh, Belgian, Spanish and Jewish heritage. And let's face it, the amount of time England's been invaded in the past we're all something or other.

PS: I accidently called my Romanian freind Eugene a 'Slav' once - he hit the roof!

most of my ancestors are from Austria(we know the boat my great grandfather's Great grandfather came over on), but I have a huge missing section, as my dad's father left after he got my grandmother pregnant, so I don't know. I just say I am mostly German and Austrian in heritage.

White European descent of mostly German and English. As a 6th generation descendant of a German settler to SA much information has been lost along the way, so there are also possibilities of a bit of Dutch and French settler heritage.

Myself: 100% Belgian white trash, most probably with some Dutch thrown into the family tree somewhere too.

Israeli

Born and raised in Israel.
Been in America 8 years, and I live this country

Norwegian with some Irish, English, French. My grandmother never liked identifying our heritage broken up like that, she proudly said we were AMERICANS. I like that.
