so you're ineligible to be a police officer or law enforcement if you messed with marijuana or hashish within 3 years? WTF?

seriously speaking, how would they know? i know they have to uphold themselves to a certain standard but really? i understand if it's 1 year or even 2 but 3? is it really that fucking serious?

They'd probably do a hair follicle drug screening.

is there such a thing? i don't think drugs would be in the body for that long. i smoked weed last year in early june. i know weed eventually makes it's way out the human body in some months after using it. so i don't know how they would be able to trace it in someone who has been clean from marijuana for a year or two.

i think it's crazy how they don't screen police officers for alcohol abuse but are strict when it comes to marijuana. #-o i've heard of way too many incidents where off duty police officers killing people while driving drunk. :( and the crazy thing is that these officers get protected by the system as if they were on duty where they get away with murder. the most they get is a suspension without pay. i applied to the state troopers awhile back and i couldn't get in because of that 3 year clean from marijuana bullshit yet some months ago there was some state trooper that crashed their state trooper car on the highway while on duty from drunk driving. they don't even know wtf they're doing.

Maybe if you got busted 4 yrs ago then you would qualify because of the date or record. So you apply for a police position in 2012 but you were busted with a gram in 2004.
Also a hair follicle might work if you hair was long enough. I don't know but as the hair grows the older stuff would be towards the end. If you have long hair you might have 2,3 or 5 yr history on your hair tips?

Alcohol is legal. Unless you have a record for being drunk in public, DUI, domestic battery or something such as liver disease attributed to chronic alcoholism how would it matter if it could be detected that you drank a week ago unless you show up for a test wasted.
They do screen cops for booze if its required both in special cases and routine physical.

They test for other things you don't think about either. If you have Prozac in your system don't expect a call for further interview for a new hire.

it has nothing to do with being arrested or anything like that. you aren't going to get onto the police force if you have any convictions, felonies or anything like that. they put that on the application. with the marijuana thing, i don't think there's any way to prove that especially if it's been over a year or more, if you regularly stay in shape, exercise, drink water a lot, and get your haircut regularly. they're really not making any sense what they're asking for because they also say if you've ever sold any drugs in your life that you can't be a police officer but how would they be able to prove it though? that's what i want to know. i never sold any drugs in my life or been arrested just to put that outthere. but you know how these police officers are when they have their minds made up on whether someone is up to no good. they'rethe most judgemental people around.

i think it's bullshit really especially looking at some of the police officers that end up on the squad. they don't want someone who has smoked weed in the past 3 years but yet they'll have someone who probably wouldn't be able to run after anybody or has a poor diet of coffee and donuts which might affect the way they do their job. weird. they make these jobs so hard to get into but when you see some of the guys that get the job.. it's like . "you're a cop?"

They know by paying attention to someone's demeanour.

how so? someone could be nervous or whatever.

I'm with you Refuji, the less drug up, mentally unfit people in the police force the better.

yeah but that's not going to happen anytime soon. :( especially with the way things are out here. the police are supposed to serve and protect but some of them are criminals, crazy people, drug addicts and the whole nine. is it like that across the atlantic?

Somewhat Refuji, i dare say nowhere near the level you're saying it is over there.

But tell me, if it's so fucked up, why do you want to join up ?

Do you want to fight the system or do you think you'd fit right in with these people ?

 i would want to fight the system in my own little way and i think i would be able to fit right with these people since i pretty much socialize with coworkers and etc like it's not a thing. might even be able to sway or influence people to do what i'm doing.

but honestly, i just want to do something in my career field. my main goal is to be a lawyer (i hope i can make good money off of that) and if not that, i want to do something in my field that i can make good money off of and that i can enjoy doing. i really don't care too much about policing people or doing any of that but if i have to, i'll do it and do a hell of a job of it to. i wouldn't be locking every single person who does something wrong up though and i would cut some people slack BUT i damn sure wouldn't hesitant to put someone in their place if it had to be done. i might let a kid slide with some bag of weed but if it's some kid that's drug dealing to the point where he's messing up the neighborhood and etc, then yeah, basically using my discretion. still doesn't change my position towards legalizing marijuana though. i would just be doing my job and protecting and serving when it needed to be done.

Every time I hear this song I will think about you and think that you were not good enough to be on the job.

well, i've pretty much was able to stroll around with a big bag of weed in my bookbag stanking like hell in new york city out of all places right in front of the police and the coppers didn't even fuck with me. :gogirl: i've been pulled over by the police where they were hoping to nail me with something only to feel stupid or to give me a traffic ticket so as far as i'm concerned, i'm winning. ..| hell, i really don't care too much about the police but hey.... it's part of my career field. i can do many things but this is the easiest out of everything else and it could help me to where i have to go.

but for the record, i'm actually working on something else for the moment that might make me actually drop the idea of being a police officer all together.

^I'm impressed did you use that big bag of weed as part of your resume?

hell no. you think i would tell them that. that's for the memoir, man. i'm just surprised that as a young black man walking in the port authority terminal right in the subway where the a, c, e, 1, 2 ,3 , n, r, q, s, 7 trains where that place is swarming with police that i didn't get caught. it was like wow. nobody thought i looked suspicious or whatever. i guess they thought i was a student or whatever but this was right after i graduated college so i must have been rolling like one too. i wouldn't do the same shit now especially the way my mind was completely out of it with the marijuana. i was fucked up for some months but one thing i have to say though is that i don't think i would be here, even have questioned my sexuality or brought myself to face it if i didn't get high. what i hid came out and it was something that i couldn't forget.

OK shut up .......if you want to join the force then do it. Stop acting like a stupid fuck from the suburbs

This sounds like a mutually beneficial arrangements.

Just say "It's over but we're still friends."

Although I'm not a police officer I do work in the Police force and I can say that all the officers where I work are very fit. Those who aren't are senior level police who have done their time "pinching" criminals and now lead their investigation teams. I don't know how it works in the US but I'd imagine the 3 year thing has something to do with convictions rather than just using the stuff.

Well, seeing as you (an an officer cadet) would be sworn to uphold and enforce the law, I think that 3 years is a good baseline time to determine a cutoff. Breaking the law by buying, possessing or using illegal drugs when you want to be a police officer demonstrates a lack of maturity and judgement..

Chances are, your application would not have survived a background investigation had it been discovered that your drug use was habitual. Regardless how long ago it was..

Shoulda just been an alcoholic like all decent cops..

Quoted for truth. Three years without kinda shows that you are through with the stuff.

Theres this crazy expectation that people who enforce the law also follow it. Instead of crying on a message board like most burnt-out useless weedheads, put down the Cheetohs get off the couch and lobby for decriminalization, if not for your own sake do it for the economic boost and decongestion of our overcrowded prisoners. Contrary to popular belief you dont have to be a useless selfish log just because you smoke weed.

how would they know? :rotflmao: i'm not a habitual weed smoker either. it was more of an experimental, occasional usage.
