Football or soccer clubs are mostly homophobic , particularly in US, I was surprised to read that UK coaches were abusing soccer teens. I thought they are tough and big they could always fight the abuser.
I guess sex is compulsive even many priests and salvo workers could be sex abusers, they target teen boys. Sad

It may help to remember that sexual abuse, be it of underaged victims or adult, is often perpetrated by an authority figure. That may be a teacher, a coach, a leader of some sort, with the abuse gravitating from a position of trust or admiration.

So, don't assume the soccer boys were physically overwhelmed. That can and does happen, but it is just as likely that they were coerced or led into it. Maybe "consent under duress" is a way to describe how the abuser uses the situation.

Aye plenty of 10/11 year old boys can fight grown adults in positions of power.

10 year old boys and younger? For fuck sake!

Personally I am not surprised. I've never encountered a sports teacher/coach who wasn't an obvious paedo perv. I'm convinced that most of these guys are only in the job for the power it gives over small boys and the opportunities to see kids naked or worse.

^ Whereas no one can challenge your personal life experiences, it is important to remember the tiny fraction of adult males that pedophiles represent.

Another salient fact is that the greatest incidence of pedophilia is via incest, not public figures. One study shows 94% of child sexual abuse is conducted by a family member or close associate. http://aic.gov.au/publications/current series/tandi/421-440/tandi429.html

A very high estimate would place pedophilia at 5% which doesn't seem possible, regardless of the inclination to not publicly report incidents. If even that high estimate were true, it would mean that 19 out of 20 coaches are not pervs.

It is a disservice to the teaching profession to allege that vast numbers of their ranks are child rapists.

I never said they were 'child rapists' ... I said they were 'paedo pervs' ( the ones I have had the misfortune to encounter were. But I should've put my last sentence in the past tense).

I am also well aware that most kiddy fiddling cunts are related to their prey.

And I respect your experiences, but I worry a bit that younger readers on JUB might get the impression that pervs dominate sports coaching based on a few publicized celebrity occurrences.

Well maybe a kindly mod could delete my posts so as not to cause distress to the 'younger readers on JUB'.

No, no distress, just perspective. I think your post is fine, as part of the story.

I worry a bit that younger readers in JUB's Amateur Showcase might get the impression that pervs dominate. (Licking their lips and touching themselves)

Or a derivative of the Stockholm Syndrome.......

Anyway..... I don't know what its like over in the UK, but here in the US many teens would be more than happy if their coach helped them score a little booze for a party with classmates. The coach suggests he should be around, to make sure everybody stays safe.... Teens get drunk, coach has his way with one or more of them..... This gets repeated and coach soon has enough control he doesn't need to coerce them with beer. Add to that the position of trust and the poor kids end up believing for a time they actually did want it, that they "led the coach on" ...... How many times have similar stories appeared in the news?

They don't dominate, but, one really never knows what is in the heart of his fellow man.
Dennis Hastert is a prime example, who would have thought?

These collectively make a very bad conclusion that it is a common event. Whereas it is an event that is familiar enough we recognize its occurrence, it is not common statistically. It is rare.

Whereas safety and good practices are warranted in child care and education, everyone in that profession should not be treated as a potential or actual sexual felon. A parking meter on the street is locked to prevent thieves from taking the coins, but everyone who walks by and potentially could steal the coins is not a thief.

Talking about coaches as if they are mostly sexual predators is simply wrong. They are not. The fact they are in a potentially exploitative position still doesn't make them exploiters.

The question is not "how many times have we heard" about them in the news, but how many are there statistically? In the US, in a nation of 350+ million souls, even 50 of them would be plenty of headlines, a microscopically small number.

The ones who abused kids too small to fight back or resist should have their balls cut off.
But I've read that some of the lads coming forward alleging inappropriate touching, masturbating etc during massage sessions are up to 20 years of age. A 20 year old football player that couldn't say no or physically resist? Absurd.

What I think is funny is the general sense of outrage from the public when they discover their coach, priest, youth pastor, summer camp counselor, etc is a pervert. Like what sort of professions do you think pedophiles would work in??? Lonely truck driver, oil rough neck, accountant??? I mean come on, pedophiles are going to work where they have contact with children.

A 22 year old massaging a 20 year old seems quite alright to me.

But unfortunately the current generation is the entitled generation. If they go Wa-Wa and make up stories the full thousand dollar-an hour legal profession will be come out of the woodwork to fight a show trial so they can win tens-of thousands of dollars in compensation..

Were they 20 when the inappropriate behaviour occurred? Or are they just coming forward now that they are adults to tell about abuse when they were underage?

I never said that they were exploiters. I am saying that anyone that has access to children should be scrutinized. If a coach, teacher, scout leader, youth minister etc. takes an interest in a child and wants to take that child to his home, find time alone with the child or buy him gifts it should raise a red flag.

I worked with boys in my church. I had rules, no closed doors and never be alone with a boy and i watched those adults that helped me.

A 20-something who is molested and cannot say no perhaps was abused at a younger age by another authority figure, and this is becoming a pattern.

If abuse were strictly physical, a healthy 20 year old athlete could probably resist another adult. Where he might never yield to physical abuse, he might lack the strength to fight against emotional and psychological dominance. Abusers are very clever manipulators, seducers and users, who know which prey is vulnerable or innocent.
Ironically, the abuser rarely feels guilt while the victim takes on terrible shame. At least in part, this explains why victims seldom come forward until much later, if ever.
