Social Network

The Social Network really deserved all of its awards - such an amazing film - fast-paced, and very intelligent.

JESSE EISENBERG should have won.

But I guess it's Collin Firth's year.

I have not seen Firth's movie, and I agree that Eissenberg should have won. That was such a remarkable performance, and the snap, crackle of the dialogue had me riveted from first note to last.

However the soundtrack should have been Inception.

The King's Speech was also an excellent movie but i still think Social Network was better.

“Social Network” dominates 2010 NSFC awards

Here are the results of the January 8, 2011 vote by the members of the National Society of Film Critics. The winners are marked with a *, followed by the second and third place runners-up. 46 members out of 64 voted, using a weighted ballot system (3 points for first place, etc.); the numbers represent the total votes for each nominee on the final, winning round.

The Society, which is made up of 61 of the country’s most prominent movie critics, held its 45th annual awards voting meeting at Sardi’s Restaurant in New York City. 46 members voted.

It was good, yes, but I wasn't blown away or anything like that.

As a film, The Social Network is better than The King's Speech, in my opinion, and deserves the best film awards but whilst Jesse Eisenberg's performance was brilliant, I thought Colin Firth was better. It had such depth, and was so carefully layered. Phenomenal.

It's such a shame that these two great performances are competing head to head, when in many other years past, either would have easily walked away with the top awards. It's pot luck, what else is in the pool.

Black Swan

I'm watching SN again as I type this, I love this movie, every time I see it new things pop! Trent Reznor's score if absolutely brilliant; it keeps you on edge throughout the film. He'll get an Oscar for it...my first official prediction for this years Academy Awards.

I've seen Social Network twice, King's Speech twice, Inception twice and Black Swan once. It's early days though, I am sure there will be further viewings in the days to come.

:D

I didn't think I's like it after all the hype...but i loved it

The kids are all right...didn't think I'd love that either

I've now watched SN 6 times and I've become a fanatic. I'll probably end up organizing the cult following...someone has to take the initiative and do it, right? hehe All kidding aside[?], Social Network is an instant classic and those are rare in these days of mega-budget films and the advent of universal 3D production. There hasn't been a revolution like this in 87 years, since they invented the "talkies." We are living in historical times.

And for the record; anyone that thinks Eissenberg's character, Mark Zuckerberg was an asshole that ripped his friends off, let me shed light.

Think of it like this -- Zuckerberg is and artist, at what he does. The Winklevoss twins asked him to draw a woman, and the kid painted the Mona Lisa.

And the people he was allowing to run the business end of things (so he could concentrate on his "art") were the ones that squeezed his best friend Andrew out of the CEO role. But I think it's far more complex than petty jealousy. The lawyers probably suggested to Zuckerberg that his friend would be better off with .03% of billions rather than 34% of a million. So in a round about way Mark was looking after his friend, at the end of the day. Does that make any sense?

Okay, I really wasn't interested in seeing the film, but you guys are giving it such glowing reviews I'm going to be seeing it tomorrow. I just hope it's as great as everyone is making it out to be.

Then again, a lot of people liked Inception, but I hated it. :(
Oh I'm excited for you Hunt, you're a SN virgin. hehe

And Inception is an acquired taste I found, I loved it but have friends that hate it and friends that love it. It's like there's no middle of the road. hehe I've been fighting with one of my best friends about it for weeks now. She absolutely hates it to the degree -- she wants her money back and the producers to pay her damages for wasting her time HAHa! ;)

I am not sure I agree with your "Mona Lisa" analogy, ShihTzu. The Winklevoss Twins, as I understand it, discussed their research, idea and provided some base coding to Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg contends that none of that code was ever used in Facebook. To take it back to your analogy, they did not merely tell Zuckerberg to draw a woman. It would appear that they gave Zuckerberg a pencilled outline and asked him to fill in the blanks. Now, if Zuckerberg painted his "Mona Lisa" without reference to the pencilled outline, then all well and good. But, if he even so much as took a line from it to add to his painting, then to my mind, it is theft. In any case, we'll never really know the truth, though the Winklevoss Twins seem determined to get more with their second law suit.

As for the issue with Eduardo Saverin, it's not a matter of whether 0.03% of a billion is better than 34% of a million, it's the fact that his were the only share holdings to have been diluted as a result of the additional investment. No one else's was affected. Whether Zuckerberg knew of the effect of the additional investment on Saverin's holdings is anyone's guess and irrelevant. What is base here is that Saverin could not possibly have known that his tiny investment at Harvard would grow into the multi-billion dollar enterprise it is now. Nonetheless, he offered up his own money to support the project when no one else would. He got 34% in return. It should have remained that, regardless of whether the Facebook became a huge success or a complete failure. In finance and investment, you bear the risk and take the returns. Saverin was entitled to his share, and not have it diluted through contract technicality.

This film is waaay overrated. It was an okay watch 1 time only film for me. I can't see why everyone thinks it's one of the best movies ever made.

And the main actor's acting was horrible in the beginning when he would say 1000 words a minute with no emotion like he was just reading the script off a paper. I'm glad it changed later on otherwise I wouldn't have been able to finish the movie. The rest of his acting was just ok, nothing amazing just like the movie.

Frosty, listen to the real Mark talk. He speaks in rapid fire because his mind works in rapid fire. For an actor to deliver lines like that with the punctuation and emphasis on each word ringing true.

Mark was an outcast. He didn't like the the twins only allowed him into the bicycle room. He was jealous of his friend getting the punch and angry that he shut down the account. He knew they were down sizing his portion of the shares. The only thing he got angry about was the dressing down that Sean gave his friend. Just like he did with the girl who called him out at the beginning of the movie and ran home to humiliate her online, he doused his friend. You can be sure that he let the story out about animal cruelty for the same reason, and for calling the cops when Sean was getting to be such a huge asshole that he was uncontrollable. To me the very first scene told the whole truth about Zuckerberg.

I watched this again last night and it is still riveting and smart and ugly . Mark was an asshole, and his assholeness got revenge.
