is soda water (no sugar) acidic or basic ?

and what are the benefits of drinking soda water ?

I'm pretty sure it's acidic. Some of the carbon dioxide in the water gets converted to carbonic acid.

I'm not sure there are any real benefits to drinking it over regular water, which you should be drinking at least 2L/day of.

It's not to everybody's taste, but I find it more refreshing than still water, especially if it is not chilled. It makes it a bit easier to drink enough water. I like to put a bit of lemon juice in it to give it a bit of flavour.

acidic ? i hope other people would confirm this.
if it is acidic, its not good the the teeth then.

it is carbonide acid, so it is acidic. however it has only a very low influence on the teeth. any softdrink is much worse.

It's quite acidic. If you drop a piece of bacon or cold cut into a glass of soda water, it will digest the meat.

It's not particularly bad for you, though- at least in reasonable quantities. It's no more than acidic fruit juices or wines. The phophoric acid in soft drinks is probably worse since phosphorus can leache calcium from the body. And the high fructose corn syrups used in soft drinks and some juices is more likely to cause problems with your teeth.

thanks guys.

so its official. Soda water (plain, no sugar) is acidic. :)

Do you mean carbonated flavorless water?

I think it's gross. I'd rather have a Sprite or 7UP but apparently it cleans your pallet; probably good if you have a sore throat, and maybe it could cure a stomach ache.

yes,
over here it is called soda water or mineral water.

unlike over there, soda is a sweet drink isn't it ?

and gas (air) = petrol ](*,)

US:

regular water=tap water=flat water

carbonated water=soda water=seltzer

carbonated sweet beverages=soft drinks=soda (regional variations: in the northern US, it's called "pop" and in the south all brands- not just CocaCola- are called "coke")

It depends on where in the U.S. but where I live all drinks such as Coke, Pepsi, 7UP, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper etc. are generically called "soda". In some other places it's called "pop" (but to me, "pop" is what happens when you stick a balloon with a pin). What you're talking about, unflavored carbonated water, is called Club Soda. Mineral water would be like Perrier.

Also we don't have petrol, we have gasoline.

Yeah, its going to be acidic due to the presence of carbonic acid. If you let it go flat it will be fairly neutral. But its a fairly weak acid and even in a fairly concentrated solution the pH isn't too bad when compared to either acids that are regularly ingested.

Really the acid that is bad for teeth is whats produced from food thats sits on or near the gums that are digested by bacteria that then release acid. Its why candy actually isn't too likely to cause cavities. The sugar in it is very soluble in water unlike carbohydrates which aren't and then get broken down. Really the worst thing about soda and coffee for teeth has more to do with cosmetic staining and such.

But plain carbonated water/soda water, club soda, mineral water is going to be better for your teeth and most likely your body than coke/soda/pop is. No sugars of any sort, no phosphoric acid, or any coloring agents.
