Solyndra, political fallout may be worse than the legal fallout

This appears to be a manufactured "crisis."

The White House, Solyndra, and investor George Kaiser all say there was no involvement by the administration in the Solyndra loan process.

The only "evidence" presented are emails from the administration to OMB, inquiring whether a pending loan might be approved in time for a planned visit to the company by president Obama.

If evidence of pressure by the administration to inappropriately approve a loan should surface, then there might be some basis for a complaint. At present, there is no such evidence, nor any claims by anyone of the existence of such evidence. All we have is the apparent hope by someone that some evidence of wrongdoing will yet turn up.

Unless and until that happens, there is no story here - just someone's hopes and fantasies for a scandal.

So far I haven't seen any evidence the White House was applying pressure, but definitely some that some OMB people felt they were being pressured. That makes for a really interesting situation -- people can interpret it as they please.

What baffles me is this sounds like it was effectively a start-up company -- and why the heck were we giving half-billion dollar loan guarantees to a start-up????

Oh, there are going to be LOTS of "manufactured crisis's" between now and November 2012, believe me...

This one strikes me as a bit early. A vast majority of the voting populace has the memory and attention span of a moth darting around a flame.

It will be forgotten by the New Year, if not sooner.

Perhaps Mr. Rove is just resharpening his skills. He has a long road of deception, misdirection and out and out lying ahead of him.

Agreed, and doesn't that raise your political motivation skepticism meter up a notch? You think of programs like this providing 10k or 20k to small businesses, not businesses who use the promise of 500 million in funds to then hire lobbyists, work with the White House and seek even more. I'd sure like to see if they also were political donors.

The two analysts I heard said their cost to produce was $6 but the market was selling for $3. It's not like this is a secret, so you have to either believe that everyone in the lending and regulatory process was completely incompetent, or you have to wonder if there was something more.

Solyndra Scandal Continues To Grow For White House

The scandal over the bankruptcy of Solyndra, once touted by the White House as the leading edge of its green jobs program, deepened Wednesday as new details emerged regarding its $527 million in federal loan guarantees.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., previously denounced the Solyndra probe as a "fishing expedition." He cut bait Wednesday, admitting the failure was troubling.

You can guarantee the President's enemies will try to keep this in the news. Just proves how desperate they are.

I don't see the "crisis" in this manufactured crisis. A company received a loan, and the company eventually went out of business.

I didn't say those you mentioned were his enemies. Don't put words in my mouth.

Long after this dies down his enemies will try to keep it alive. Mainstream media (or should I say lamestream media :rotflmao: ) has a very short attention span. The elections are over a year away. So you see real news organizations reporting on this a year from now?

It will be Limbaugh, Beck & Fox that will try to keep on with this non-story. It will be those who spread lies and propaganda.

But what will the republicans really try make an election issue: gay marriage and abortion.

Gay marriage, gay marriage, gay marriage. If you're gay and the republicans are in charge, you can forget about your basic human rights being protected. You're a second class citizen.

Please stay on topic, thanks. I know you dislike it when someone tries to derail a thread. Thanks again.

It's a half billion dollars of our money. If I were responsible for such a mismanagement of the taxpayer's money, I would encourage every investigation available to clear myself.

If my staff put me in a position where I personally flew out to a business to help promote it and provide public relations support using my office as POTUS, and it subsequently defaulted shortly after all of my promotional work heads would roll.

Maybe President Obama is handling these issues privately and appropriately, I don't know. But I think it's not that we have a right to question it, we have the obligation to hold someone accountable. It doesn't make us "anti-President Obama", it makes us responsible taxpaers.

The government chose Solyndra specifically as a company they wanted to succeed. They rushed the process for political purposes, pissed away $500,000,000 of our money to produce new jobs. The new jobs never materialized and the old jobs and our money is gone down a rat hole.

Where is there any positive spin to be had in this disaster? Obama fucked up, now he needs to take his lumps.

Reeks of political pay back! Follow the money: George Kaiser & George Kaiser Family Foundation

Obama admin reworked Solyndra loan to favor donor

George Kaiser Family Foundation of Tulsa, Okla. The foundation is headed by billionaire George Kaiser, a major Obama campaign contributor and a frequent visitor to the White House. Kaiser raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama's 2008 campaign, federal election records show. Kaiser has made at least 16 visits to the president's aides since 2009, according to White House visitor logs.

Because George Kaiser, one of the company's chief investors just so happens to be huge a Obama donor.

This has scandal written all over it.

The White House pressured federal officials to OK a loan to an insolvent but politically tied green energy company in advance of a vice-presidential photo-op.

The emails show White House officials repeatedly asking the Office of Management and Budget about progress on the loan review. One email from a budget official referred to "the time pressure we are under to sign off on Solyndra" and referred to "a situation of having to do rushed approvals."

In one email, an assistant to Rahm Emanuel, now mayor of Chicago but then White House chief of staff, wrote on Aug. 31, 2009, to OMB about the upcoming Biden announcement on Solyndra and asked if "there is anything we can help speed along on the OMB side."

BTW, MSNBC's primetime shows haven't said a word about this.

He also happens to have lost a lot of money on Solyndra, and says the administration did not intervene in the loan process for the company.

Responsible news organizations report news, not someone's fantasies.

The Daily Show's take on this last night was hilarious:

As usual, we get more truth from The Daily Show than some of the "news" media.
