Solyndra, political fallout may be worse than the legal fallout

With America's short attention span, this story will be forgotten in 2 weeks unless it develops further.

If the House is gonna investigate anything, they should start with the banks.

oh this will get investigated as it should since taxpayer money - and lots of it was invested unwisely at a minimum

"green jobs" is code for govt. knows better than private industry on how to stimulate the economy - or at least it is an attempt by the govt. to act as a market maker

hmmm - didn't do so hot

so whether or not there was any malfeasance (time and investigation will tell) this is a lightning rod for market based economic fix vs. govt. based

strap in

love that progressives are ignoring this

as it exposes a fatal flaw in their mantra as to how to fix the economy

that's the real story

It is definitely going to hurt politically but how much I couldn't say. But it will become a campaign speaking point I'm sure with more and more stories and Op Eds coming out already pointing out that Green industries have not turned out to be the jobs bonanza that the WH implied they would be.

Wall Street banks, the mortgage industry, the insurance industry, and the automobile industry have all been doing a pretty phenomenal job of stimulating the economy for the past three years - and without any help from anyone! (!)

The self-regulatory discipline of the credit ratings agencies in particular has been without peer.

It's just absurd that the government would want to intervene in this Nirvana. :grrr:

What was Obama thinking?

The problem is this will now become the center piece of discussions on Obama's jobs promises. Any discussions or promises of green jobs or putting Americans back to work from the WH will now be countered and crippled by just one word, Solyndra. The WH had better come up with some examples of green jobs that offset this failure and fast or they going to be crippled and discredited on one of the subjects the voters care about most going into the election.

Where is there any positive spin to be had in this disaster? Obama fucked up, now he needs to take his lumps.

Reeks of political pay back! Follow the money: George Kaiser & George Kaiser Family Foundation

George Kaiser Family Foundation of Tulsa, Okla. The foundation is headed by billionaire George Kaiser, a major Obama campaign contributor and a frequent visitor to the White House. Kaiser raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama's 2008 campaign, federal election records show. Kaiser has made at least 16 visits to the president's aides since 2009, according to White House visitor logs.

So, Chron.com, a conservative newspaper, runs this article about the "crises". I see it as keeping the crises alive. Yes, I looked up on wikipedia for you, Chron.com endorsed Obama. Only 2 Dems since 1964.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Chronicle

With the demise of its long-time rival the Houston Post, the Chronicle is now Houston's primary newspaper.

--snip--

On October 18, 2008, the paper endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election, the first Democrat to be endorsed by the newspaper since 1964, in which it endorsed Texan Lyndon B. Johnson.

Watch the republicans try to use this to debunk the entire green industry. They're be wailing "green technology isn't any good!".

Of course they will, because they're all in the hip pockets of the oil industry.

Hometown news then. OK?

Obama's Solyndra scandal reeks of the Chicago Way

Those of us from Chicago know exactly what the Solyndra scandal smells like. And It doesn't smell fresh and green.

So forget optics. What about smell? It smells bad, and it's going to smell worse.

Or, did you really believe it when the White House mouthpieces — who are also Chicago City Hall mouthpieces — promised they were bringing a new kind of politics to Washington?

This is not a new kind of politics. It's the old kind. The Chicago kind.

I don't think Solyndra matters, in terms of jobs.

John Boehner recently gave a speech to the Economic Club of Washington, in which he opposed the president's jobs plan. That means that Republicans are organizing to oppose the jobs bill, which means it is dead.

There is no chance that Obama will try to defend his bill against Republican opposition. He will strip out of it everything except a few tax cuts for the wealthy, and that will be pretty much everything in the bill.

Jobs creation in America was dead long before Solyndra. I think the Republicans are just trying to whip Solyndra up into a frenzy as a cover for their anti-jobs position.

But it doesn't matter. We aren't going to see any real attempt to create jobs. Herbert Hoover said you don't need it - that depressions are self-correcting.

Laissez-faire economics does not have a provision for economic stimulus. Period.

You know that's false, so don't indulge the urge to lie in defense of your faith.

Everything is relative

and relatively speaking, MSNBC's primetime lineup sucks Obama's balls

sure occasionally Rachel will call him out when he backs off a progressive promise

but that's a pretty rare occasion

because they've hitched their wagon (love cliches) to the Pres. - they helped get him elected and they're working hard to get him re-elected

MSNBC has evolved over the years as a counterbalance to Fox News. Whatever journalistic ills one find in Fox the same can be found with MSNBC
