Someone should start a thread on the problems Facebook is having over personal data.

Unless FB gets serious about getting rid of all the fake accounts including Russian troll farm accounts, they are going to shed a lot of users.

Their algorithms seem more concerned with finding titty shots or detecting cock than with the machinations of rogue states.

I'm also not thrilled about how much homophobia they allow, although yeah the bots thing is super fucking bad and they always seem to be ten steps behind on these things.
 
The "problems" are things facebook was well aware of and they are just trying to save face.

They have problems over what they DID with that data.

I was never fooled by the intent of the internet by TPTB

I said we were the product when the Internet first started..not rocket science...

...I am more annoyed by people that are fooled...

This new fucking Cortana bitch....awwww...how nice..we get to talk to someone...like who the fuck can't figure out in a minute or less that is designed to eavesdrop when you use it....and you can't take it out or disable it....and the automatic "upgrades"...I don't even want to think about what they are "upgrading".....

...yet...I hear time and time again when I notice something that I shouldn't be paranoid. Well...I say to them... you shouldn't be an idiot...

...and now google and siri and amazon want to be cortana as well because cortana gets to hear everything and they are petitioning for the same right....BTW..turns out cortana IS listening to your personal conversations..even storing them...

People that have money and power and control..they always want more. They sold their soul long ago most likely for a place at the table..assuming they had a soul in the first place....

....there are exceptions...find the humanitarians...

So yeah..FB has always been what I thought it was...and the potential it has....I don't think most people even have a real clue what we are facing....this is just the tip of the iceberg...and it can and will get MUCH WORSE...

Imagine this: If Hitler had access to everyone's personal info and profile...he could decide to______________(fill in the black...it isn't difficult)...psssst..history repeats itself...

Some people really don't have common sense.

Years ago, I had a female friend. One time while I was in the shower she came bursting in and took a picture. Haha very funny. Well, later I found out she'd been showing that picture to friends and family. When I confronted her about it, she said it was her picture and she had the right to do what she wanted with it.

You will always run into people who have no sense of boundaries.

I disagree with you on the intent of the Internet. I don't believe the people working on it created it for the sake of power, or control, money perhaps. I do believe they considered it more in terms of the prosperity it brings. But data has always one the most powerful resources that exists and this type of stuff has always been an issue. It's just that now we can accelerate the process a thousand-fold and that creates new complications.
 
I still find too many people are way oversharing their personal status and info on FB and Instagram.

And of course...the Alexa's and similar units just won't be allowed in the house.

I have even given up mobile phone and my notebook entirely now.
