The whole reason the audience sympathize with the Navi is because they have a face and they look cute.

When we do encounter real aliens, will we be able to sympathize with them if the look like the blob or starfish?

There is no "when" we encounter aliens, there is only if.

IF the theory that life arises spontaneously is correct, IF the conditions assumed in other solar systems are favorable, IF the planets imputed by light analysis and flickering and blinking is accurate, and IF life actually exists merely due to mathematical probability, THEN the issues of transport and time make the meeting of aliens still more of a question.

We have no evidence at all that any form of life can learn to achieve light speed travel. IF that becomes possible, we have no reason to believe any intelligent species rise and coexist at the same periods in time that would enable a meeting of the two worlds.

For the sake of conversation, let's assume all of the conditions are positive and an encounter does take place. What possible reason would they view us as intelligent life forms IF they see either Avatar movie?

E.T. beat them to it by decades, and we were the enemy.

I love the premise because a NASA scientist gave a TED Talk about the world of Fairy Tales as an introduction to science fiction.

"The Frog Prince", "Beauty and the Beast", "The Ugly Duckling"; these stories are all about us and our prejudice - like most of science fiction itself.

For centuries these folk tales have asked the question, how do we react at the sight of something different from ourselves.

AND TIIS IS WHY aLIENZ AVOID US.
