I live in fort laudedale, and i went to naples today...there was this woman with a vote yes on prop. 2 bumper sticker...and i threw mt starbucks coffee at the back of her car. Hypothetically, if she would give my license plate number to the police, can they do anything? I cant imagine they can mail a ticket for something that they didnt see...and no damage was done. It was pretty immature, but whatever, its done. Anyone have any idea?
 
Remember in this day and age there are security cameras in many places.

I suggest you speak to a criminal defense attorney sooner rather than later - if she took down your license number at a minimum you can expect to be visited by a police officer or detective who will want to question you - depending on how the Naples PD responds to complaints like this, they may take you in for questioning rather than conduct an onsite q&a - here's where the attorney can help you in advance with your response - the attorney may suggest you only answer questions in his/her presence

most prosecutors will want an independent third-party to corroborate any criminal complaint - this prevents two citizens in a he said/she said dispute - as josher correctly notes tho lots of jurisdictions now have security cameras on major thoroughfares so photographic evidence is often used as that necessary corroboration

another driver also may have witnessed what you did & given his/her contact info to the woman you hit & that would provide the corroborating evidence

incidents of this type, if they have sufficient evidence, are commonly prosecuted under vandalism &/or road rage stats & sometimes reckless driving or criminal negligence or criminal recklessness, depending on the jurisdiction - I'm not familiar with FL motor vehicle law, but I know in my state prosecutions on complaints like this are not uncommon & some 30-90 day jail sentences have resulted upon conviction - in a neighboring state, a woman recently received a 2yr jail sentence for throwing a full coffee cup at a car in another lane - in some states this kind of behavior would be prosecuted as a felony but most as a misdemeanor

notwithstanding the above she could still take civil action against you if she got your license number - in most cases of that type only a preponderance of evidence is necessary & he said/she said is often admissable

it goes without saying that you should never, ever do this again - the roadway is not the place to express your outrage
 
Did she see you do it? I can't tell from your post. If she did and she expressed any outrage, I would UnderBiCover's advice. If she didn't see you, I wouldn't worry about it.
 
She would have to go to the trouble of filing a citizens complaint and get you issued a ticket for littering - and then have to appear in court if you contest as she is the only witness. I doubt she will go to the trouble. Priceless: An angered gayboy winging a Starbucks cup full of coffee :badgrin:
 
I would like to think that in this country (UK) that any complaint like that would be laughed off, no damage, no possible damage and no danger. Only in the US would a lawyer be advised to be consulted before anything has actually happened. Hell over here very little property crime is taken seriously as the paperwork takes too long.
 
I imagine your incident isn't going to come in on top of any policeman's priority list, but in case I'm wrong, I hope you disposed of the cup in a way that can't be traced back to you.
 
I can't really imagine anyone going through the trouble of contacting the police over something like that. It's enough to really piss someone off, but any sane person would get over it once they washed whatever it was off their car.

But she sounded like a bitch anyway, and probably deserved it.
 
In what way did she sound like a bitch? She was driving in a car with an offensive bumper sticker. You don't know anything about her. Was it even her car?

very true and by that reasoning alone, i guess straight people can throw obects at anyone driving around with a rainbow sticker on thier vehicle...two wrongs don't make a right.
