This is, perhaps, one of the most gorgeous songs I've ever heard. And it's definitely the version of 'Rainbow' that I prefer, compared to Judy Garland's.

Eva Cassidy's voice when she sings it is so full of something that I can't quite put my finger on. Rest in peace!

Anyway, I know that alot of people haven't heard this version, but I figured everyone here might like it.

Thanks for sharing that, Hourglass. I've loved this version for years, and I have most of her cds. She was an amazing talent, and it's incredibly sad that she never got to see just how big her music would be with people all over the world.

Another wonderful version by Hawiian Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Unfortunately Bruddah IZ as he was known died in 1997 at the young age of 38.

I love the mellow sound of a guitar. And that voice is great. Thanks for introducing me to this singer. I had never heard of her. Again, thanks!

Eh.

She has a nice voice, but the phrasing seems contrived, and some of the ornamentation she's adding seems odd. Give me Judy all the way.

Thanks a lot!
I have loved Eva Cassidy's music for a long time, but never knew what she looked like.
There's another version of "Over the rainbow" that I just loved.
It was the end of the opening ceremony of the Out Games in Montréal last summer.
Can't remember the singer's name, but it was just spectacular.
It's just the opposite of Eva's version, now that it was full of power, lights and fireworks.
Funny how the same song can look like so different.....

i love her version of fields of gold <3
Me too! Michelle Kwan's Exhibition to Eva's Fields of Gold at the 2002 Olympics was one of the most emotional peformances that I have ever seen.

That's virtually the same exact version of the Cassidy version, just with a different (and less talented, IMO) singer.
thanks for the reminder never to contribute anything to a thread- theres always somebody ready to shoot you down. but at least leona's better to look at (imo).

I really really really don't like Leona Lewis. She's more robotic than Carrie Underwood.
