Sondheim's Company on PBS Wednesday

Thats my favorite version too.

I guess I'm just tired of juke box musicals, revivals, overblown 'spectacles' and musicals based off of movies.
I used to be obsessed with Broadway musicals. Then 'Wicked' kind of killed it for me.

The thing is, both ladies sang the song in a way that allowed us to understand the hurried lyrics. In the new version, the singer (sorry her name escapes me)chopped up the words, and made them difficult to understand.
I don't think that is what Sondheim had in mind, I have to wonder if Stephen was very happy with this version.
Difficult song to sing to be sure, but ya gotta be able to understand the words.

Someone famous once said: "Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one."

So I'm not about to argue with the whiners on here. Each person enjoys whatever he or she enjoys.

I thought the production was wonderful when I saw it live, and I thought it was wonderful watching it on TV. (TV usually butchers stage shows, but this was very well directed.)

Believe me, Stephen NEVER entirely surrenders creative control of his shows. I'm quite sure he had notes for all of the actors involved.

There is a video of a masterclass on YouTube in which he instructs an actor on how to sing "I'm Not Getting Married." It's quite fascinating.
