I'm in a cathartic mood, got some built-up emotions that I have to get out of my system, so I'd love to hear some music that's so soulful that it brings you to tears.

Please be genuine, I'm not just looking for any old sad song, I'm very interested to see what really hits your heart that much that it has such a powerful effect on you.

Sorry if I'm flogging a dead horse here, I get the feeling that this topic will have been covered before.

Below is a song that I love dearly, and the fact that the music is part of a requiem just makes it that much more meaningful.

From the top of my head, Fire of the Mind by Coil. It's basically just destructive and desperate, and very, very strong:

Anything by Bon Iver, basically. My favourite would be Blood Bank, from the Blood Bank EP:

The acoustic version of Staralfur, by Sigur Rós:

Epitaph by King Crimson:

..I could go on and on. These are all songs that have hit me in a special way.

This the English translation.

Uh - la la la...

When I was heartbroken, who stayed by my side?
On whose shoulder did I shed my tears?
With whom did I share my joy?
With whom did I hold hands?
I remember.

On the night we spent apart
The moon was far away and I was crying.
On the night we spent apart
The moon was far away and I was crying.

Who taught me true strength?
Who taught me kindness?
On whose account do I walk?
Who did I want to stroke my hair?
Who didn't give up for me?
I'll never forget.

When I stray from the path, and
When the path is too long,
I was muttering to myself.
That's the way life is...

I pray that this singing voice
will reach you...
I pray that this singing voice
will reach you...

I pray that this singing voice
will reach you...
I pray that this singing voice
will reach you...

ha-a-a-

The only music that make me cry is the Assyrian Mawal.

This one didnt made me cry, but is a small example. you might like it

Assyrian pride.

The downside of this thread is that it takes me ages to listen to all the songs so I can get back to you. :)

So far:

jubalon - It's always interesting to see the different music styles that evoke different emotions in people. For me it's mostly louder, more in-you-face passionate songs that make me sad, where as your chosen songs were more sombre and gritty.

Swellegent - I swear I recognise the music for the first song, isn't it quite famous? Your two examples seem to be opera songs, have you seen them live? I imagine that would be a lot more emotionally powerful.

giftart - I really enjoyed that song, thank you. I'm a fan of Japanese (hope I'm right here!) music myself.

Yohan - Out of interest, is your love for that song spurred by missing your home country or similar?

Thanks to all, I'm really enjoying this.

wuhh, I've never cried from listening to a song......

movies yes, song, nope!

:]

naww, I usually want to cry when I hear something really depressing, and most of the time you can't really hear all the lyrics to a certain song that might be sad.

OH. I've been emotional while listening to Rachmaninoff, but that doesn't have any words....

You are right! :D It got me through one of my lowest time.

Not much these days but these songs did.

Crazy for You - Madonna
I Miss You - Klymaxx
Make it Real - The Jets
Anything for You - Gloria Estefan
I Can't Make You Love Me - Bonnie Raitt
Time - Billy Porter
Sweet November - Troop
Can't Wait Another Minute - Hi-Five
It's So Hard to Say Goodbye - Boyz II Men
Man in the Mirror - Michael Jackson

Moon River - (anyone's cover, really.)
The Book of Love - Peter Gabriel
Molly Bawn - Alison Krauss
Fallen - Sarah McLachlan

Since my breakdown it doesn’t take much if I am in a depressed state. The first song I ever cried to was “Calling You” by Blue October. It fit my life at the time. The last song I cried to was “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” by Meat Loaf, which I just don’t understand. How can you want someone and need them, but not love them? I guess I am still too new to emotions.

See, I think it's really great that so many people are so in touch with their emotions. Without being too over the top, I hate it when people bottle everything up.

I'm proud for you all. ..| :D

Coco Rosie - Werewolf
