Songs Worth Sharing

I would be remiss if I didn't include "Lazarus," the hit from Blackstar. The first four lines of the song were quoted in many death announcements of Bowie.

Look up here, I'm in heaven
I've got scars that can't be seen
I've got drama, can't be stolen
Everybody knows me now
Look up here, man, I'm in danger
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm so high it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cell phone down below
Ain't that just like me?
By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
There I'd used up all my money
I was looking for your ass
This way or no way
You know, I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now, ain't that just like me?
Oh, I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh, I'll be free
Ain't that just like me?

Punk song about the singer losing his pet lizard Norman. The last bit of the lyrics always get me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOnbfj4cEuw

And nothing I say will make it okay
You just sleep in the heat and repeat
You're wasting away
And nothing I do is gonna save you
I'm trying my best, but you can't even
Look at me or talk to me or tell me what's happening to you

Yesterday, I went back to my apartment
To see how you've been holding up
You hadn't been eating, I thought you were sleeping, but
You're not waking up
And I want you to know that I'd spend every bit of my
Pitiful savings and loans
Just to see you again
But I know I won't

Since I've given you Per Amore in Italian, with a Portuguese translation, here are the lyrics, with the English translation. I hope google translate didn't butcher it too badly.

Io conosco la tua strada
Ogni passo che farai
Le tue ansie chiuse e i vuoti
Sassi che allontanerai
Senza mai pensare che
Come roccia io ritorno in te...
Io conosco i tuoi respiri
Tutto quello che non voi
Lo sai bene che non vivi
Riconoscerlo non puoi
E sarebbe come se
Questo cielo in fiamme
Ricadesse in me
Come scena su en attore...

Per amore
Hai mai fatto niente
Solo per amore
Hai sfidato il vento e urlato mai
Diviso il cuore stesso
Pagato e riscommesso
Dietro questa mania
Che resta solo mia?

Per amore
Hai mai corso senza flato
Per amore
Perso e ricominciato?
E devi dirlo adesso
Quanto di te ci hai messo
Quanto hai creduto tu
In questa bugia
E sarebbe come se
Questo fiume in piena
Risalisse a me
Come china al suo pittore

Per amore
Hai mai speso tutto quanto, la ragione
Il tuo orgoglio fino al pianto?
Lo sai stasera resto
Non ho nessun pretesto
Soltanto une mania
Che resta forte e mia
Dentro quest'anima che strappi via
E te lo dico adesso
Sincero con me stesso
Quanto mi costa non saperti mia
E sarebbe come se
Tutto questo mare
Annegasse in me

I know your way
Every step you take
Your closed anxieties and voids
Stones that you will remove
Without ever thinking that
As a rock I return to you ...
I know your breaths
All that does not you
You know very well that you don't live
You cannot recognize it
And it would be as if
This sky on fire
Fell back into me
As a scene on en actor ...

For love
Have you ever done anything
Only for love
You braved the wind and never screamed
Divided the heart itself
Paid and bet again
Behind this craze
What remains only mine?

For love
Have you ever run without flato
For love
Lost and started again?
And you have to say it now
How much of yourself did you put in
How much did you believe
In this lie
And it would be as if
This river in flood
It went back to me
As if bending over to his painter

For love
Have you ever spent it all, reason
Your pride to tears?
You know I'm staying tonight
I have no pretext
Only a mania
Which remains strong and mine
Inside this soul you tear away
And I tell you now
Honest with myself
How much it costs me not to know you are mine
And it would be as if
All this sea
Drown in me

The song was written by Mariella Nava

Had to get the train
From Potsdamer Platz
You never knew that
That I could do that
Just walking the dead
Sitting in the Dschungel
On Nürnberger Straße
A man lost in time
Near KaDeWe
Just walking the dead
Where are we now?
Where are we now?
The moment you know
You know, you know
Twenty thousand people
Cross Bösebrücke
Fingers are crossed
Just in case
Walking the dead
Where are we now?
Where are we now?
The moment you know
You know, you know
As long as there's sun
As long as there's sun
As long as there's rain
As long as there's rain
As long as there's fire
As long as there's fire
As long as there's me
As long as there's you

The Man - Taylor Swift

I think Taylor Swift nailed it in the lyrics as far as what its like to be a Man in the World

[Verse 1]
I would be complex, I would be cool
They'd say I played the field before I found someone to commit to
And that would be okay for me to do
Every conquest I had made would make me more of a boss to you

[Pre-Chorus]
I’d be a fearless leader
I'd be an alpha type
When everyone believes ya
What's that like?

[Chorus]
I’m so sick of running as fast as I can
Wondering if I'd get there quicker if I was a man
And I'm so sick of them coming at me again
'Cause if I was a man, then I'd be the man
I'd be the man
I'd be the man

[Verse 2]
They'd say I hustled, put in the work
They wouldn’t shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve
What I was wearing, if I was rude
Could all be separated from my good ideas and power moves

[Pre-Chorus]
And they would toast to me, oh, let the players play
I’d be just like Leo in Saint-Tropez

[Chorus]
I'm so sick of running as fast as I can
Wondering if I’d get there quicker if I was a man
And I'm so sick of them coming at me again
'Cause if I was a man, then I'd be the man
I’d be the man
I'd be the man

[Bridge]
What's it like to brag about raking in dollars
And getting bitches and models?
And it's all good if you're bad
And it's okay if you're mad
If I was out flashing my dollars
I'd be a bitch, not a baller
They'd paint me out to be bad
So, it's okay that I'm mad

[Chorus]
I'm so sick of running as fast as I can
Wondering if I'd get there quicker if I was a man (You know that)
And I'm so sick of them coming at me again (Coming at me again)
'Cause if I was a man (If I was a man)
Then I'd be the man (Then I'd be the man)
I'm so sick of running as fast as I can (As fast as I can)
Wondering if I'd get there quicker if I was a man (Hey)
And I'm so sick of them coming at me again (Coming at me again)
'Cause if I was a man (If I was a man), then I'd be the man
I'd be the man
I'd be the man (Oh)
I'd be the man (Yeah)
I'd be the man (I'd be the man)

This is a personal favorite of mine, Linda Ronstadt singing Different Drum, written by Monkees member Michael Nesmith. The song comes across as a sort of MOR pop/rock ballad as done by Ronstadt, but heart and soul it's really a country song, and was originally done by a bluegrass group. If you imagine a man singing it, the lyrics come across as a stereotypical cowboy wanting his freedom, insisting that "a team of wild horses couldn't drag me to the altar." BTW, Michael Nesmith himself never seemed to take this song seriously, doing a pathetic version of it on The Monkees, and performing it many years later, as if taking the subject matter of the song lightly.

You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh, can't you tell by the way I run
Every time you make eyes at me? Whoa
You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees
So, don't get me wrong it's not that I'm knockin'
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me
Yes, and I ain't sayin' you ain't pretty
All I'm saying's I'm not ready for any person
Place or thing to try and pull the reins in on me, so
Goodbye, I'll be leavin'
I see no sense in this cryin' and grievin'
We'll both live a lot longer if you live without me
So, don't get me wrong it's not that I'm knockin'
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me
Yes, and I ain't sayin' you ain't pretty
All I'm saying's I'm not ready for any person
Place or thing to try and pull the reins in on me, so
Goodbye, I'll be leavin'
I see no sense in this cryin' and grievin'
We'll both live a lot longer if you live without me

What a beautiful song, and so sensuously sung by Zizi Possi.

I'm a fan of Marilyn McCoo and The 5th Dimension. Marilyn has such a wonderful voice.
"One Less Bell to Answer" was their big hit song from 1970.
In this television show clip, Marilyn is live-singing, so closely to the studio recording, I didn't catch it the first time!

Here's another song from the same album, "Portrait." "This Is Your Life," according to some notes on YouTube, was sung by the other female in the group, Florence Larue. A lot of talent in that group.

This is a newer song and I resonate really well with it. This year has been huge for me in moving forward and not letting the past eat me from inside out.

This is what the singer Lynn Gunn says about the song.

I never want to burn bridges with people. I never want people to be hurt. Even if a situation was toxic or wasn’t healthy, I still always just want the best for somebody. But sometimes you need to let things go and you got to let certain people go. I feel it’s right to have this at the end of the album. It just really captures that no matter what somebody’s put me through, I’m not going to hold that against you. I’m always going to hope that you can grow from this and heal. But I also love a good four on the floor, really groovy bass, fun song. So it was the first time we’ve really gotten to make something like that. It had to be on the album.

Liz Damon's Orient Express was a group from Hawaii, that sang sweet-sounding mellow music in the late '60s and early '70s. "1900 Yesterday" was a hit, and "You're Falling in Love" was the B side of the 45 record.

Con te dovrò combattere
Non ti si può pigliare come sei
I tuoi difetti son talmente tanti
Sei grande, grande, grande
E le mie pene, non me le ricordo più
Io vedo tutti quanti i miei amici
Son tranquilli più di me
Non devono discutere ogni cosa
Come tu fai fare a me
Ricevono la solita cravatta
Per il loro compleanno
Dicon sempre di sì
Non hanno mai problemi e son convinti
Che la vita è tutta lì
E invece no, invece no
La vita è quella che tu dai a me
In guerra tutti i giorni
Sono vivo, sono come piace a te
Ti odio, poi ti amo
E poi ti amo, poi ti odio
E poi ti amo
Non ti lascio mai più
Sei grande, grande, grande, come te
Sei grande solamente tu
Ti odio, poi ti amo
E poi ti amo, poi ti odio
E poi ti amo
Non ti lascio mai più
Sei grande grande grande e come te
Sei grande solamente tu

With you I will have to fight
You can't be taken as you are
Your faults are so many
You don't even know them
You are like a capricious child
You always want to win
You are the most selfish and domineering woman
I've ever known
But the good thing is that at the right time
You know how to become another
And in a moment you
You are great, great, great
And my pains, I don't remember them anymore
I see all of my friends
They are quieter than me
They don't have to discuss everything
Like you make me do
They receive the usual tie
For their birthday
They always say yes
They never have problems and are convinced
That life is all there
But no, instead no
Life is what you give to me
At war every day
I'm alive, I'm the way you like it
I hate you, then I love you
And then I love you, then I hate you
And then I love you
I never leave you again
You are big, big, big, like you
Only you are great
I hate you, then I love you
And then I love you, then I hate you
And then I love you
I never leave you again
You are great great great and like you
Only you are great

Here are the lyrics keeping in mind the limitations of google translate. I loved the song, and to be honest, before I saw the translation, I had anticipated that the lyrics would be more profound, rather than just about a conflicted relationship.

Nat Puff is a Lesbian Trans Woman who goes by Left at London that I just recently discovered and got into.

The song itself is about suicide ideation.

“It’s about suicidal ideation, and how things are technically getting better in theory, despite the ideation getting worse and worse. The single cover is in fact me pre-transition at age 12, walking on the beach, like the chorus suggests.”

For some reason my posting of "1900 Yesterday" by Liz Damon's Orient Express was taken down. It's a soft and pretty song, so I'll try this link for it.
