Have any of you seen the new Sony Vaio Lifestyle PC? It's only 1.4 lbs, has built in GPS, and higher resolution than most netbooks. I have owned both PCs and Macs. I am debating buying this vs. a Macbook. I am looking to buy one or the other to replace my current laptop and will use it only when I travel. Anyone seen or try this PC yet?

I haven't really followed the mini notebooks much, but that one seems REALLY nice, and if you're just going to use it for travel, I imagine it would work great.

It's way overpriced and it's an extra $300-400 for a solid state drive. I don't really like the keyboard (only because of how small that right shift key is and how it's placed right next to the up arrow). I don't care much for the pointer either. Another qualm is the battery which lasts only 3 hours. Also, it has Windows Vista, which isn't so great with the 1.3ghz processor, and you have to add yet more ram (4gb total) for it to run decently. OMFG, it takes about 6 minutes to boot up and it's slow as shit! I haven't looked into it, but Sony might not have XP drivers so you might be stuck with Vista if you don't want a $1k brick. It has no video ports, so you have to use a (relatively) bulky adapter if you want to hook it up to a monitor or need to make a presentation.

However, it's much more portable than a netbook because of its size, and it has a special mode for when you're on the go and don't want to boot up Vista. I haven't tried it, but the reviews are promising. I love the screen resolution. The size and dimensions are also a huge plus. It's really easy to hold in one hand and type with the other while you're standing or sitting without a table in front of you. Also, the vga adaptor has a gigabit ethernet port so you can transfer files quickly on a network.

Considering everything, if I had the money and I traveled a lot, I'd get it.

acceptable screen resolution will be available this month, and you save $500 compare to $ony products

hey guys, thanks for the comments. I went out this weekend and purchased a new Macbook. Since I was deciding between the Macbook and the Vaio, I tried the Sony and liked the Macbook more because it's still as light as I need it, has a dvd drive, and I can run XP and OSX on it.

i love it and would love to have it.

Although it would be basically for web browsing while i'm travelling (which rarely happens).
