I wouldn't give it a chance really....
The originals...James Gandolfini, Edie Falco and the masterful Nancy Marchand as well as the supporting cast and writing....brilliant.
I wouldn't want a prequel....would kinda ruin the original for me.
If HBO wanted to give new life to a series that has been successful with Will and Grace and maybe Roseanne now...they have CARNIVALE and ROME and DEADWOOD that could easily be revived and taken either to a prequel or 10 years later...or right where they left off....
Even OZ could be rebooted...but shows like SEX AND THE CITY...or THE SOPRANOS...or SIX FEET UNDER...I feel they told their story....to perfection.

it was inevitable --would have been a film if James hadn't died---if it is the same writer/producer/creator David Chance---would def want to see---he is genius and will write and cast some great people---if it is not the same guy pretty sure sill suck
