sore throat and a bitter taste

This morning I woke up with a sore throat, and the feeling of a cold coming up. Guess that's my punishment for a weekend of outdoor party, not caring about the rain and drinking too much or so.
Anyway .. as I said I have a sore throat with a mild pain .. that's how a cold usually starts for me, but often it's just two days of sore throat and that was it .. I am kinda resistant :) But this time, it doesn't hurt when i swallow, but everytime I swallow I have this NASTY very bitter taste afterwards in my throat - something I never had before. Anybody got a clue what this could be? Does anybody else have had this with just a cold .. or could it be something else?
 
never had that in connection with a cold - and it's not like the more "burning" taste/sensation that you get sometimes through eructation or pyrosis (not sure if i am using the right medical terms here).
well drugstores have closed now .. any household remedy .. baking soda or so maybe? i heard that should help for pyrosis
 
tongue normal, taste not metallic, i still have the tonsils and umm .. they are not too swollen .. i think. the lymph node in the chest area is a bit swollen though
 
Probably just a cold. Sometimes they present a bit differently. I'd say gargle some salt water. Unfortunately there is no magic cure. Some say Vit C, others say zinc, I don't think it really matters. Rest and chicken soup is probably as good as anything... and stop partying so much haha.

yeah i am garglin salt water since morning, and drink green tea with lemon and honey :) my usual "cold" procedure. just never had that nasty taste before, and wondered what that could be - since none of my usual hypochondriac inducing websites had something about it ;)
 
^ well that's the point, isn't it. i do know that you don't get sick of cold air and rain or so :)

anyway, it's much better already today, so once again it seems i am getting away :D
 
There is a bug going around here with the same symptoms you're describing. Lots of people in my gym and at work have it. After the throat you should start gushing from the nose... good news is that it seems to go away after three days or so.

Stay home so you don't infect others.
 
the bitter taste was still mildly present this morning, but has been gone since then. apart from some sneezing, nothing happening to my nose .. yet. it seems i got away once again, we'll see tomorrow ;)
