Sorry Hardup1, America stupid law again ...

It's not a policy, it's the law. I agree that's it's a stupid law, so repeal it!

Seriously ridiculous. Diane deserves a medal. Judge needs a swift kick to his head.

The subtitles in the video are terrible.

Thanks for posting this thread Telstra.

I saw this story the other day and just wow. Justice is often times compared to being a sword; swift, strong, and unyielding. But if the blade of the sword is too stiff it breaks. In this instance, it broke. This is not justice, this is bullshit.

Are all judges elected in the US ? Some are, some aren't ? Can an American explain it to me, it's not clear for me at all :)
(In France all judges are appointed by the State after they graduate from special judge schools, after some law schools. It's a contest, there is a fixed number of jobs offered each year, and grand majority of people who attend the judge school are already graduates+5 years of law studies.)

It's not clear to a lot of people ;-) ....

It depends on the post. The general rule is that supreme court judges are usually appointed with some oversight (such as the SCOTUS judges), others are elected, and others are simply hired or appointed without a problem (such as administrative judges). They usually have some background as lawyers before obtaining their posts, as the only prerequisite is proof that they know the relevant body of law. Otherwise, no special "judge" school...
