So I'm about to leave the Ontario Airport in southern California, where I'll be spending the next week or so. I'm here for my college reunion, but I've gotplenty of time for other stuff. What else should I do while I'm out here?

See a concert or head to Death Valley and take that in?

I'd visit the canals on Venice Beach, the houses of Christopher Isherwood and Aldous Huxley, one of the "WeHo" bars and that big J. Paul Getty Art Gallery in the hills.

(I'm surprised an airport would have that name there, despite what Google says)

the ontario airport? that's the one near Ontario, California. wow, i live near there and there is nothing really exciting around there. well maybe you can go to big bear or if your willing to drive to LA you can go to Venice Beach like Pat said. there's a lot more to do in LA than in Ontario.

Well, I chose the hotel because it's near the college, the ostensible reason for my visit. But I do have a car, so driving won't be much of an issue.

You could spend some chill time walking around the Santa Monica** Pier area, nice laid-back feel there...

...and if you're in the mood for roller coasters and such stuff, Knott's Berry Farm is probably the best choice in the area. (If you gfo there, be sure to stop at the busy restaurant which has great fried chicken!)

**Operator-assisted phone call, circa 1960:

CALLER: Operator, I'd like to call Santa Monica
OPERATOR: Go ahead, but I don't think he's gonna like it.

Weather kind of sucks right now, will be raining the next couple of days. You just missed the 90 degree weather. Not much to do in the Inland Empire but that's the good thing about being so close to all the other places.

Personally -- I'd head STRAIGHT to West Hollywood!!!...

Where I'd stumble out after a couple of weeks of pure debauchery!!! ..|

Sounds FUN Lex -- I LOVE that part of the country!!!

:):):)

So far, I've just checked into the hotl, then went down to the pool (despite the somewhat chilly weather). I didn't get to exercise this morning, so I did some water aerobics and laps to try to make up for it. Then a mallard duck flew into the pool. Never seen a duck in a swimming pool before. Decided I didn't want to scare him, so I got out of the pool an into the hot tub.

And no pics of the duck, because I didn't bring my phone to the pool. That'll learn me. :)

If you get to Venice, you may want to visit Gold's gym if you like bodybuilders. You won't feel out of place, they get a lot of visitors and will ignore you. A good chance of seeing a movie star. 24 hou fitness in We Ho has an active locker room.

No real interest in seeing a movie star. I've seen a few on random occasions, and I can't say they interested me much. A 24-hour active locker room? Hm. :)

My rental car looks like it should come with three speeding tickets attached, so I'll have to play it pretty smooth. :)

Oh, and any pictures will have to wait until my return, as I'm only doing iPhone pics this trip.

Go to Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica.. great restaurant. Also, visit the Winchester house in San Diego..

Gah! You're missing the return of the Miller moths. The annual invasion is a month early, and they're here in droves. Damn this mild winter -- it didn't kill them off! I went out for an evening walk and there were hundreds following me around, bouncing off the lampposts, crashing into my head, fluttering maimed and dying on the ground ... it's epic this year.

Aw, gee, hate to miss miller moth day. No, wait, no I don't. :)

Japanese BBQ for dinner. Overdosing on meat grilled at the table. My first night here may just be classical music on the iPod, a bag of jelly beans, and a great book...while wearing just my underwear on my hotel bed. :)

Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino. The gardens are spectacular, and the library has a great exhibit that recently opened on the construction of the transcontinental railroad.
Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park. Beautiful Moderne building, great views, superb planeterium show. First scene in Terminator was filmed here.
Lunch in one of the outdoor cafes at Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood. Somewhat irano-euro trash, but entertaining nonetheless.
The Getty Museum in Brentwood. The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades.
The Peterson Automobile Museum in the Miracle Mile
3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica
Try to catch a concert at Disney Hall.

One of the things I like about spring! the Miller moths :)
Haven't seen a single one this year though...

Well since you came in from Ontario Airport you should try out Ontario Mills HUGE mall. Me and the husband go out to Dave & Busters when we get bored, always enjoy playing the games and having dinner there.
