The symbolism is fine.
Pelosi sometimes flew on military planes, you will recall, because Homeland Security felt her presence on commercial flights could make those flights terrorist targets. Of course, it's hard to imagine that there was ever any real risk. But Homeland Security wanted to make a symbolic gesture.
Boehner is continuing the Pelosi tradition of symbolic transportation gestures. (If Boehner really wanted to save money, he'd take a spare seat on a military flight from Washington to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. That would land him even closer to his home in West Chester than the commercial airports in Dayton or Cincinnati could - and the military planes are going there anyway! But there are no cocktails or first class dinners on the military flights.)
I imagine we'll see a lot more of Boehner following in Pelosi's footsteps in coming months.
