It was interesting on the associated "fix it yourself " thread.... the single solitary massive change you can make is to Cap Medicare at GDP or in other words spend on healthcare what you can afford.......

Never happen -- you'd just waste more money and have it tied up in the courts. Better to just make sure it's actually spent on real infrastructure.

What you're suggesting is just a drop in the bucket.

How about letting the tax cuts for the rich expire? Because that would pretty much fill in that gap and we wouldn't have to cut school lunches for sick kids or medicaid for the homeless.

Let those expire.

Add the 5% surtax on incomes over $1 million.
Add another 5% over $2 million.
Add 10% more for over $3 million.
Above $5 million, rack it to 97%, just like in WWII.

See, if we didn't have a debt, we wouldn't have much of a deficit. We're basically throwing away more money annually than any nation but us spends on their military.

My plan would eliminate the national debt by 2030.

If we do it before then, take the remaining revenue from the WWII-level tax, from the point when it's really paid to 2030, and send "Hell, yeah! We're out debt!" checks dividing the "pay the debt" surplus evenly between all citizens 16 and up, with a card in the envelope saying, "Go celebrate!"
