As some of you may know, parts of South-Eastern Australia have been inundated by flooding caused by torrential rain. One of the consequences is that ground dwelling spiders have been flushed out, so to speak, and are forced to fend for themselves in the trees and grasses.

Have a look at the pictures in this thread. Pretty amazing, huh? The second picture looks like snow, but it is in fact spider webs.

Sigh. I love spiders, and I'd love to see this close up.

National Geographic Channel published a set of similar phenomenon in India following the great flood:

To be honest, I'd burn the trees. These things make me cringe.

Truly horrendous. I saw that National Geographic spread, and not being able to see the spiders made the whole thing beautiful, but seeing them makes it gross.

Well there you go.

This morning I was listening to a story about how a Japanese musician had made violin strings out of 9,000 to 16,000 spider web strands.

Isn't nature fascinating?

saw those pics earlier and thought they are absolutely amazing. and beautiful. yes, beautiful.

I think spiders are beautiful, but I prefer them alone or in small groups. Not by the tree-full. There's a JUB thread with great spider pics - anyone remember where?

This makes me think of an X-Factor episode where the contestants had to put their head in see through boxes then someone would drop about 16 trantulas on their head.... To my surprise I dont recall anyone freaking out but I know I would have.

YUCK!! I hate spiders!!

NEVER watch infested! I watched it once and can't stop looking around my house for insects and spiders now...

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww..... (that's ewww with lots of Ws). I am not much of a spider fan :)

When I was a kid, I'd just to make a loop of wire tied to a stick and then lift as many spider webs who as I could to form a sticky net. We'd used to catch dragon flies with it, and boy they really bite back when you grab them in the wrong place.

Yeah I thought the same, watching trees cocooned in silk webs. But imagining thousands of menacing eyes watching you from the layers make me shudder  :help:

Who knows nature can be beautiful and terrifying at the same time ](*,)

^ Good point. I don't discourage the wolf spiders from hunting in our basement. They tend not to bother humans and I'd be happy if they ate all the crickets.
