Um...going by months. Astronomical spring doesn't start in Oz for about three weeks.

Why, that's the same time autumn begins here! Coincidence? I think not! :)

Spring has sprung... no, autumn has begun. About two weeks ago. ;)
(I'm talking about weather conditions, no actual measurements for the changing of seasons)

You ever experienced one of ours? Pah! You dont know what winter is until you've had to walk 2 miles to work, ankles deep in slush, rain driving in sideways, winds gusting upto 70mph and temperatures as low as -5°C! :(

You should try one of ours. Snow up to your knees (or higher!). Houses disappearing across the street in a snowstorm. Unploughed sidewalks and streets. Blustery winds which hum through the trees and hydro wires. Temps as low as -25ºC with windchills in the minus 40s.

Ah, the joys of a true Canuckian winter.

Wouldnt mind winter if the country was actually set up for one properly. :-(

Ice is about the only thing that brings us to a halt, and then it has to be a lot of ice. Schools close down before storms hit, but many students here travel by bus and it's for the safety of the kids that they close. Otherwise, even knee-deep snow rarely stops traffic. Everyone just drives in the tracks that someone else has made. Besides, if you get stuck, there's always a bunch of people ready to jump in and push you out.

Some photos for you.

The goose is wearing a typical Canadian touque (pronounced like 'nuke').

I miss living in a place where we actually HAD seasons to celebrate. I'll be visiting Vermont in early October, I can't wait.

It's going to be a bright and sunny weekend down here in Cape Town (!)

Time for nude sunbathing at the beach has begun....

This entire post is meant to be sort of half in jest. I don't think anyone from Britain, Ireland, Australia, or the United States, south of the Mason-Dixon line has a right to complain about "winter." Well, in the north of Britain, you're entitled to bitch about the darkness (but not the cold), because it's pretty far north. I hear far too much jammering from my fellow Americans, who don't realize how great the climate is here, comparatively. The worst ones are the ones who complain about SAD. The northernmost point of the continental U.S. is only 49N, for crying out loud--we actually have daylight in December! In my opinion, if you don't live in Siberia or adjacent parts of northern Asia, or the Federal territories of Canada, you're just a whiney bitch. Which makes me a whiney bitch (other than the fact that I don't whine)!

Ummm. Gee. I was going to ask if anyone had noticed my 'goose in a toque' in post #8, but. . . um. . . gee. . .

No hurt feelings now! I downloaded it. Where I live we are extending the hunting season for geese because our state government says we have too damned many.

I live in Texas near Beaumont and the Gulf coast. We had our first cold front of the season, come through night before last. It was great! A little cooler, but the best thing is the humidity is lower. It is 88 degrees, now. Last week, it was close to 100 degrees with the heat index close to 110 degrees. I love spring and fall, but hate winter.

And it's a really lovely day here in Melbourne: sunny. a very mild breeze, and a pleasant 23 degees (celsius). From a webcam a few minutes ago:

Ahh - just inspires a good cup of tea!
