My partner stayed in the UK after I returned home to LA this week. This AM, to my great surprise, he texted me pictures of today's St Patrick's Day Parade in London. He's staying at Marble Arch, so he followed the parade down from Hyde Park Corner to Piccadilly and thence to Trafalgar Square. Here's a video from YouTube. Reinforces my impression that London is the center of the world and always up for a party. Looks like fun:

I assume it was celebrated today because it is easier to hold a parade at the weekend.
But St Patrick's day is tomorrow, the 17th

St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Seattle used to be fun events spread all around the city.
Now the celebrations happen before the actual day due to local taverns and pubs catering to the "rough crowds".

The St Patrick's Day parade in Birmingham was cancelled this year with the explanation that "despite countless hours of planning and the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, partners and supporters, the gap between what we can deliver with the resources and finances available and the requirements to host a safe and successful parade has proven too wide to bridge". No party here!

I wouldn't be surprised if an awful lot of local festivities of all sorts get cancelled due to funding deficits.

With enough advanced warning the public could have made donations - maybe next year!

Possibly. I'm not sure how many people outside the Irish community are sufficiently bothered to contribute. Drinking a Guinness in the pub on Paddy's Day is one thing, paying for a parade through the city is something else.

St. Patrick's Day was uneventful in Seattle and King county, but for Tacoma and Pierce county it's been a DUI free-for-all with accidents and arrests right up to Tuesday.
