Stairs that lead up to the kitchen counter?

I'm startled they want so much money for such a pokey hole.
Still, I'm out of touch with 'foreign' rent.

275 € = $407 US ? For that closet where you have to sleep in the kitchen ? Yikes!

I've examined all those 5 pictures and I can't figure out the layout. Is there a hallway? Where's the bathroom? There seem to be two front doors to the street.

Is this converted horse-stable preferable to the 'NY journalist's tiny apartment shown here last month?

I'm expecting Harry Potter's uncle to chase him into this little hole just like old times under the stairs.

I see some space between the kitchen counter and the single loft bed, so you can walk inside and don't have to duck.

The bathroom is obviously in pic #4, the shower is probably hidden or not yet installed. There seems to be one entry way and two doors, although the one with the wooden frame is the one leading outside (nice garden which justifies the rent, despite the room) and I can't see another bathroom door with wooden frames.

I guess this used to be some sort of bar or café.

The bathroom door is the white door on the right side in pic 3. It swings out into the living space; you can see the painted hinges. In pic 4 you can see a reflection in the mirror of the wood cabinet on the opposite side of the living space...so that white door has to be the bath door. The wood on the left side of pic 4 is the door jamb...the wood on the right side is inside the bathroom, not a jamb, because you can see the floor in front of it at the bottom...that's probably the shower.

There is a small entry hall to the side of the windows that leads to the front door. The other front door...?

Pic 5 confused me at first....the rear door is open and you can see the loft bed through the open door. There are steps down from the back yard to the rear door (the backyard is higher than the apartment floor line)...and on the inside (pic 2) you can see a step up to the rear door.

I thought my apartment was tiny...geesh...it's spacious compared to this place. I think in The States, a realtor would advertise this as "charming & cozy." ;)

Jay, that looks like excellent deduction!

I haven't yet drawn my version of the layout but I'm now thinking there may be a separate flat upstairs above the low ceiling— it requires a separate doorway and a skylight to the street and presumably a window overlooking the back yard.

I tried to find the place on Google Earth; it's on the street called "Chaussée de Dinant" in the town of Profondeville opposite the sewer farms on the River Meuse.

I'm looking for ideas because I'm moving from a large house to a small 'granny-flat'.

Modern Tokyo architects have some amazing lateral-thinking space-saving solutions (though I refuse to sleep in a cupboard drawer!)

I understand now, but from the way the pic was taken... if that right part of the door frame is more on the inside, isn't the bathroom diagonal?
