We have purchased some of these sheets to give away to friends and family this year.
And of course, one to frame.
I collected stamps as a kid, but when I went to University, my mother gave my stamp album away because she knew I would not be dedicated to filling a book with stamps.
I always hope that the person who got it kept it going, but I doubt it.
Anyway, this is the first stamp issue that I felt we had to purchase so that I could explain one day to my great-nephews what a fucking heroic move this was.
Because in the Second World War, when German troops took over my grandparents' house, the first thing they did was smash the picture of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands that hung in the entry foyer.
My grandmother was so incensed that she took her broom to them to beat them.
How she wasn't just shot, I don't know, but I will bet that that there was one German leader in that group who admired her forcefulness because it reminded him of his own mother and they let her live even though they took my grandfather away (he also lived but that's another story).
I can hardly wait to get these stamps.
