"Star Trek" has Captain James T. Kirk aboard

Chris Pine is in advance discussions to star as Captain Kirk in Paramount's "Star Trek." If Pine joins "Trek," which J.J. Abrams is directing, he would face off against Australian actor Eric Bana, who was cast Tuesday as the film's villain, Nero. It is unknown whether Bana would play a human or a member of the alien race, like a Klingon; as per the veil of secrecy that surrounds "Trek," parts are being solicited and offered without scripts.

Although not a complete unknown, Pine's biggest gig to date has been the male lead in the 2006 Lindsay Lohan movie "Just My Luck," which flopped. The 27-year-old Los Angeles native also caught some eyeballs with a scene-stealing role as a neo-Nazi assassin in "Smokin' Aces," also directed by Carnahan.

Two more actors in the forthcoming film have been revealed.

Simon Pegg and John Cho have signed on to star as Scotty and Sulu, respectively, in the upcoming 11th installment of the Star Trek franchise.

I just checked the imdb website for Star Trek XI (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/)

It says Zoe Saldana is playing Nyota Uhura and Anton Yelchin is playing Pavel Chekov

JJ Abrahams had this to say about them:

As much as I love Star Trek, for some reason I'm not hyped about this new movie. Ever since Gene R. passed it just hasn't been the same.

If they want to focus on the past, they should try something different, perhaps the Mirror universe? Make a movie about how the Terran Empire collapsed or something.

Chris Pine To Go Where Shatner Went Before

Writer-director Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces) has indirectly revealed that actor Chris Pine has landed the role of Captain James Kirk in the next Star Trek movie. It had been reported earlier that Pine was weighing whether to co-star with George Clooney in Carnahan's next movie, White Jazz, or take the Kirk role. But on his blog Monday, Carnahan wrote that Pine "has opted to 'go where no man has gone before' and thus had to bow out of White Jazz. I've been talking to him this past week and knew how tough the decision had to be for him. I don't envy ever being in that spot, but I gave him my full support, even if it meant he didn't do Jazz. I get it. You don't get opportunities like that often."
