Star Trek Legacy pc/xbox360

well those certainly look better than mine. thank you for posting them! I'm at 800x600, medium, shadows, and 2x aa.

i'll post a couple also. you can also see what my fps is (top left corner). :(

Those aren't as bad as i thought by your comments. I think the main issue is your video card, i know you just got it and all, but i think you shouldn't worry about a processor or RAM unless u just want them.

Thing to keep in mind is that while my screenshots look ok (1280 x 1024, 8xQ AA, 16x ASF triliniar, >60 FPS), i'm also running the game on a multi-thousand dollar rig. I guess what i'm saying is don't spend that kind of money just to play legacy, at least not until it's patched and we get better controls.

What i did to improve the graphics was posted on the legacy forum. I just changed the LOD's so that the highest quality LOD doesn't vanish at a few Mm away. And the main thing is tone down the default brightness! Too much ambient light is a killer for space graphics.

Here are my rig's specs in case you're interested:
Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 3.2GHz @ 1280MHz FSB
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard
4Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2-875 Ram
512Mb eVGA nVidia GeForce 7900GTX
160Gb 10,000rpm WD Raptor system drive
1.5Tb (5 drives) storage
Dual 19" Samsung LCD Monitors

And here's a uncompressed version of the first shot from above, the jpg compression was killer on those shots. (i didn't put it in image code cause i'm hosting it off site b/c it's big, and i don't want people to eat my bandwidth.

well shit fire. so you think the radeon 9550 (i exchanged the geforce 5200) is still too old? i don't think it's my ram i have two gig. here are my specs

WinXP Pro SP2
Intel D865PERL mobo
Intel Celeron 2.70 Ghz proc Model 2, Stepping 9
2 GB Ram (4 x 512 MB DDR 2700)
Diamond S120 256MB DDR Radeon 9550 (8x AGP)
WD 300 GB hard drive
WD 160 GB hard drive
Maxtor 300 GB hard drive

i was thinking since it's a celeron with only 128 K L2 that was the bottleneck. But you think it's still the vid card?

Yea i mean your celeron isn't a gaming powerhouse, but i'm certain that video card is holding you back. The Radeon 9550 core is over 4 years old :(. You can get a better card for about $120-150, but the thing that's really holding you back (and making it so expensive) is that you need AGP. Everything is PCIe now.

But if you want to try a round 3 i'd look at Radeon X800s, or X850s, or if you really want to spend, up to a X1300 or X1600. Or you could go nVidia with a Geforce 7600 or 7800 model.

well shoot. i don't want to take it back really i could i still have tomorrow to take it back, but that was the best that staples had and i think it was a very nice policy to take back the Geforce 5200 after 14 days and let me get the 9550. maybe i'll look at best buy tomorrow and see what they have in.

what about the HIS Radeon X1300. i see it on tigerdirect for 94 bucks: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2248728&CatId=0

and it's on the list of supported cards! lol

Hey it's all up to you what you do, it's your money. I don't know if the X1300 will give you the quality YOU want, but i can say i'm sure it will be a marked improvement. But like i said, it's your decision!

And here's a nice screenie, Enterprise-A. This shot reminds me a lot of Star Trek II. Love the Constitution Refit design. Hell it looks better here than in STII!

that's a very nice ent-a. the constitution class refit is my favorite trek ship of all. i have the Art Asylum "toy" version of it and it's great. i think it looks as good as the 100 dollar bandi version! ;)

i see a P4 3.4E 800 mhz 1MB prescot at pricewatch.com for only 134 i might get that.

did you get off the NX mission with the folks harvesting poison or something from planets? i can't get past it.

Yes i'm almost done with the Kirk era missions. I think i may have 1 or 2 more with capp'in James T. I didn't have many problems with the harvesting mission. I had a fleet of 4 NX class. Just go to each planet and take out the harvesting starbases. You might wan to leave one ship in the middlish of the map to take out freighters so the rommies can't complete the toxin package.
