But anyhoo -- back on topic - Next generation was really the only Star Trek I liked

I still remember watching the premeire of TNG with my college roommate, after the anticipation had been building for weeks, and both of us being so excited and amazed at how cool it all was ... the ship, the crew, Data, the holodeck......

Star Trek: TNG was so humanistic -- it had a fundamentally positive view of human nature and the potential for every human being to grow, to overcome their limitations, and make tremendous contributions to the common good. Inspirational.

I've seen every episode at least 7 or 8 times. At one time I could just about recite the lines of each character. I haven't seen it for probably 8 years now.

Remember that one where Jordy gets infected by some sort of 'shadow monster' down on some planet ?

He recreates the scene on the holodeck, trying to figure out where that 'extra shadow' is coming from. Then ends up looking like something out of 'Tron'...lol.

For whatever reason, that holodeck scene scared the living crap out of me...I'm not sure why.

Eh.. TNG was a guilty pleasure of mine. Only thing I disliked were episodes where the holodeck malfunctioned (which seemed to happen a lot...) and the entire episode took place in a (insert era here) setting.

Wow!- those were some of my favorite episodes

when i was in college (way back in the early 90's - carbon dating myself) they would show tng reruns at 10:30 weeknights. my next door neighbor hosted a viewing party every night. we would all gather around his tv and watch the show. i have to admit i really do miss those nights.

Different strokes, I suppose. I watched it for spaceships and warp speed and the whole idea of the future, blah blah blah. If I wanted to watch a western, I'd watch a western.. know what I mean?

another thing that i truly loved about tng is how they fleshed out the whole klingon race by way of lt. worf. those were good stories.

I totally know what you mean. I watched it also for the reasons you give and I always wanted to know how/why the holodeck malfunctioned.

Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit ! :gogirl:

How much does that retail for ??

For me, the great thing about TNG is that each season it got better and better...

Looking back on that first season....well....things were shaky at best.

But, by that glorious last season, it had progressed to almost Shakespearean levels... "There are THREE lights !!!"

Seems to me that they could have gone one more year, but Paramount was in such a rush to launch the movie franchise.

Aww, well....

Troi and Crusher were the first real women of Star Trek

My favorite episodes were "Inner Light","Tapestry",and "Family",all great Picard episodes where we get to see a more humanistic, multidimensional side that the often reserved Captain rarely wished to convey.I loved so many episodes it is hard to pin down the best, but these really introspective, richly humanistic types of episodes made the most of an impression on me.

I liked the original Star Trek, loved TNG,and my favorite was DS9.Voyager I believe was a space and time anomaly, and Enterprise was intriguing but really inconsistent.

i got into star trek because i recognized patrick stewart in a movie called jeffrey. i figured that since he was so awesome in that movie, he must be pretty good in that star thingie show.... and he was!

happy birthday next generation!!!
