I saw it on Thursday, and it's so crazy, before that, i hadn't really heard much about it, like anywhere, and now it's blown up and everyone is talking about it and Pine's and everything.
I saw it because my bff was bugging, and I've always thought Pine's was hot since I saw him in Princess Diaries and Just My Luck

I saw it twice and loved it both times. Two plot holes were WAY more evident the second time around. They actually changed my opinion of the film.

SPOILER ALERT

1) Black holes consume the area around it. It does for huge distances more than what was in the movie. Also, when a star goes supernova, a black hole could result; so it doesn't make sense to use a black hole to stop a supernova.

2) The timeline doesn't make sense. It takes about 10 minutes to go from Earth to Vulcan at maximal warp, but the trip away takes a day or two. Kirk gets stranded on a sister planet to Vulcan (because Spock watched Vulcan from the surface). After hanging with Spock, walking a total of 14km (approximately 9 miles), having fun with Scotty, and adapting a standard transporter into a transwarp transporter, Kirk and Scotty transport back on to the Enterprise en route back to the Laurentian system. Was the crew of the Enterprise walking to the Laurentian system? I did not know that Scotty had the knowledge to develop transgalactic transporter.

They may have started out walking to asses the damage done to their purty new ship. This Spock didn't really have a sense of urgency about him. Future Spock mentions that Scotty, in the future, develops a way to transport onto a ship in warp, that in itself assumes that the ship is covering vast distances and this technique is apparently capable because not only are the ship and the person being transported moving, but also space itself. All future Spock did was enter an equation, that I saw at least, and then they were off. Scotty didn't do anything, but talk until they were on the Enterprise.

I think it kind of works like kitty's phasing power from the x-men. She goes out of sync with the earth's rotation and is suddenly no longer in New York, but London. I'm guessing somehow this equation takes you out of sync with space and space "moves" somehow so you are actually in the same location but space has moved so you're in another area of it when you materialize. So you only have to actually go out of sync with space and transport to a point A that forms a straight line to the ship you want to be transported on and let space move while your out of sync.
Like you only move five inches to the right, go out of sync, space moves and you come back into sync at some point ahead of warped ship so it "catches" you materializing. This is what I got from that little blurb they through in there. haha All you need is one line to fix any problem in a sci fi move. "Thank God we invented the _____ device it allows us to..."

That's was my point about the black holes.

Saw it today and loved it.I give it 3 and a half out of four stars,my only problem being the really cumbersome, not truly logical technobabble revolving around the time/black hole situation.I hope the next one cuts back on that but in terms of characters and action,it was everything I hoped.Chris Pine has great comedic touch, really underrated...he certainly does Captain James T. Kirk justice and was hot as hell in that scene with the Orion Starfleet cadet. The skin he can work on,no biggie
....though I also agree that the actor playing his father,Chris Hensworth was really smokin'!

Zachary Quinto made a terrific, conflicted Spock. All steely and focused and of course logical on the outside but torn inside with questions about his mixed Vulcan/human status and where his place really is.Leonard Nimoy brought poignancy and dignity as the older Spock and the torch couldn't have been passed on more fittingly and classily to the new group.

Karl Urban was so good,so believably Dr. Leonard McCoy...folksy,loyal,funny,stubborn and passionate De Forrest Kelley would have been proud.John Cho and Zoe Saldana were somewhat different in their portrayals as Sulu and Uhura, but very effective.I liked Uhura being more assertive than before and that having her love interest not be the expected one was a wonderful touch I loved and hope that is continued to be explored in the next film.

Anton Yelchin was spot on and amusing as Chekov....very endearing and likeable.Simon Pegg was the very soul of Montgomery Scott....Jimmy Doohan would have loved it.

I would hope to ride a couple of more times at least with this new crew,I definitely am looking forward to new adventures. If Paramount doesn't overplay it,this franchise can indeed look forward to live long and prosper.JJ Abrams really deserves credit, along with the writers who are huge fans of Trek for giving a bold, exciting reboot to the franchise and making it relevant and cool to go where no one has been before. This may be a new generation of old heroes and friends, but the heart and humanity of Trek shines timelessly.

There was something packed in that overnight sack...LOL

Ok, I FUCKING LOVED the movie but that scene...THAT SCENE...was memorable! When I saw the size of that bulge...holy fuckballs...I had a raging hardon instantaneously! Dayum that guy is FINE!

^ there was that scene as well as another scene where Pike was sitting down and Damn I thought " that boy is huge"

/\ ha ha i only paid 5.50 for the 10 am early bird showing. :)
i may see it again since i got a good price the first time lol especially since i think the movie alone warrants a second theater viewing.

I saw it with some mates on Monday and I abosolutatotally loved it!! :D

Gunna watch it again on the weekend at the IMAX ^_^

Was it just me, or did anyone notice the Wrath Of Kahn reference from Eric Bana: his "Spock!! SPOCK!!!" scream was such a "Kahn! KAHN!!" moment...

Loved it. I thought the filmmakers did a great job at making references to previous Star Treks - Leonard McCoy was brilliant - while still producing a fresh product.

Chris Pine's skin is bad, but his teeth are worse.

The scenes on the frozen planet were a waste of time. What was the point of that woolly mammoth chasing Kirk only to be eaten by a insect creature that could not exist in a frozen environment? And its ferocity is tamed by a torch? What was the point of that insipid dog-like companion of Scotty? Spielberg inspired stupidity.

I'll second: Winona Ryder? WTF?

The birth of Kirk. It's the 24th century. Why are women still crying in pain when they give birth?

Loved this movie.

I am not a big Trek fan, but have seen most of the movies. I thought it was great, but every time they did a close up of Old Spock, all I could look at were Leonard Nimoy's dentures....lol....

Has anyone seen both the Imax and regular, non-digital version? How much better is Imax picture quality with this movie? I'm seeing mixed opinions when I search the net.

Apparently this guy was not pleased with his IMAX experience:

Apparently, IMAX rolled out a digital projection system last year that can be easily installed in a normal movieplex and doesn't require those huge film reels of a traditional IMAX projector. The downside is that the screens of these "Fake IMAX" theaters -- as Aziz calls them -- can be as much as a quarter of the size of standard IMAX screen. The size discrepancy between them is shown here:

But the real problem is that the IMAX Corporation along with its partners, theater chains AMC and Regal Cinemas, are refusing to distinguish between the two formats. Moviegoers will not know what kind of IMAX experience they will have until their tickets have been ripped. The theaters however, are charging the same price for "fake" digital IMAX as they do for "real" film-based IMAX.

I thought it was a good movie...though I never cared much for the original series....I grew up watching TNG and then DS9 and Voyager...

I would like to see how this new timeline affects those shows...but hey...I'm glad we got a decent Star Trek movie out of this

would love to see a Crisis-type movie where the original timeline meets this new skewed one...and throw in a new re-imaged Mirror Mirror universe....it could be like the series finale of TNG :)

I've seen it twice now and loved it both times. Freakin' awesome!!!!!

Watched it again, but not at the IMAX, 3rd time lucky!!!

Couldn't help but keep an eye out for Kirks bulge! At that moment, I was definitely standing to attention. *|*

I think point 2 was especially troublesome.
