it's not from the escape pod

it's the under side of one of the "feet" of an AT-AT (walker); matches my examples of the vehicle perfectly

the "notches" under the guys right arm and at the top are where the extensions go (4 in all)

Two things.

1. They're on actual location--no CGI.

2. They've built props--no CGI.

I'm digging the beard.

I always thought it would be cool to have an older, wiser Luke Skywalker take on the mentoring role (à la Obi-Wan) to a new generation of Jedi.

And now it's coming true!

So they are going for nostalgia. Not a surprise. After episode VI I never had much faith that there was any more interesting story to tell with Leia, Luke, and Hans. They defeated the empire, grew old and lived happily ever after. I hope the writers managed something truly imaginative, and not all nostalgia.

So they are going for nostalgia. Not a surprise. After episode VI I never had much faith that there was any more interesting story to tell with Leia, Luke, and Hans. They defeated the empire, grew old and lived happily ever after. I hope the writers managed something truly imaginative, and not all nostalgia.

I take it you're an Arndt person? I'm still not sure why he was let go. Something about time constraints?. Or is it that your'e anti J.J. or anti Disney? The push for a 2015 release date seems like a boner move, but I'm keeping an open mind about it all. I have no problem with the original 6 reprising their roles whether central to or merely supporting the story. Such ageism. Sheesh. Just make it a good. That's all.

Star Wars Episode VII: Miami's Oscar Isaac Cast Alongside Old Favorites

Not very long ago in a city very close to our hearts, a Guatemalan-born actor was cast in the upcoming seventh episode of Star Wars.
We don't yet know what role is in store for Oscar Isaac, previously known for supporting characters in Drive and the 2010 remake of Robin Hood. We don't even have a clue whether he'll be Sith, Jedi, alien being, or mere human rebel. All we know is the 305 will have serious representation in a galaxy far, far away.

The series reboot, directed by Lost executive producer J. J. Abram's, continues where 1983's Return of the Jedi leaves off.

What's even more exciting is that Isaac will star alongside most of the franchise's most memorable and beloved characters.

I had most interest in JJA years ago with his early tv work. He showed promise. But gradually I realized he is a bit overrated and overused. He can seldom deliver a package which has contents worthy of its flashy wrappings. The Star Trek reboot was about the most impressive thing I see him do, I admit. Super 8 the worst.

I have nothing against old people in movies, so please refrain from accusing me of "ageism" just because I think this particular movie may be relying too much on nostalgia. I am hoping for the best with it, and hope our returning heroes are given justice with their scripts and are not just used as props.

Also...

I have a bitter sweet love affair with Star Wars.

The first movie came out when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. It was love at first sight. By the third movie I was totally invested in the characters... and then? I was dumped. I was willing to forgive, but when the next three FINALLY came out, I was bait and switched with mostly new characters. NOT the ones I grew to love, and followed their adventures with.

I hate prequels. I didn't much care what made Darth Vader evil. He was the villain. That's all I needed to know. Good guys. Bad guys.

Not to mention the length of time I had to wait for those prequels. Now decades later I'm yet again bait and switched from Luke, Leia, and Han and given more cheap substitutes with their kids... and I'm supposed to be happy about it !?!?

Star Trek may not have had the budget Star Wars did, but at least it was more consistent and nearly always there for me.

I'll eventually watch the new movies... out of curiosity. Not out of love of an old friend, but as one going to a class reunion to see their first love nearly forgotten, in the arms of someone else and pretending we don't know each other in shadows of might have been.

Although I may not have been alive/too young to see the first films released in theatre, still love the films just as much and feel the same nostalgia.

I will see the next three and am keeping an open mind, hoping they don't rape and cannibalize the franchise any more than they have like with Phantom.

I'm rooting for Carrie Fisher. This may bring her back to reality if not at least provide some closure and validation.

I only hope they have been spending this time focusing on a rock solid script, story, and characters rather than figuring out how to make the best CGI ever.

It's under the helm of JJ Abrams, isn't it?

I felt that basically the whole "hook" of Lost was that it made fantastic effort to convince you that there was an enormously grand mastermind plan going on behind the scenes with the story writing, when in reality it was more like they were writing things as they went along. It strung the viewer along teasing you with hints of explanations interrupted by copious episodes involving flashbacks and breaking the storytelling to build suspense. And then the ending just pissed off pretty much everyone.

The Star Trek movies didn't show either a mammoth effort to make really good scripts, or to make great Trek. They were movies engineered from top to bottom to wrap the shell of Trek with its catchphrases and characters around a piece of candy designed to taste best to the non-fan mass mainstream audience, where it did fantastically well. They were pretty poor as Trek installments, even if they were pretty well made from the point of view of having mass mainstream appeal.

Given that I don't really hold my breath he'll make something that the notoriously emotionally devoted Star Wars base is going to be remotely pleased with. Even Lucas couldn't do that with his prequels.

I didn't see the new cast/pre-production still that was released on JUB so I thought I'd post it. I think it's interesting given what the really hardcore fans are jizzing themselves over right now because of it.

Now I'm a pretty huge fan of the franchise (save Phantom Menace) but if I'm ever interested in finding the pulse of rumours and news it's best to go the the full on fans that have read everything about Star Wars lore etc. Places like theforce.net, etc.
Apparently there's a good chance that the storyline will focus heavily on what it was always meant to which were the characters of Jacen and Jaina, which are Han and Leia's children. Rumors are swirling that the young actress pictured in the photo talking to Carrie Fisher will portray the daughter and actor John Boyega will play the son.
Personally, I'm interested to see what roles Max Von Sydow and Andy Serkis will play? Sith, surely.
