Future Shop was sold out the first day. I finally discovered this morning that Wal-Mart had copies available, so I hopped the bus this morning and got my hands on their last available copy.

Just finished watching it and I must say that I enjoyed it immensely. Tied up the Ori storyline quite satisfactorily and brought back an old nemesis. . . temporarily. ;)

I was afraid they would 'oomph it up' for the feature movie, such as the way they did with the original Star Trek movie way back in the 70s, but they kept true to the series and didn't spoil it with wall-to-wall visual effects and people not true to their characters. I didn't even mind Carter's pony tail after awhile.

Fans of Stargate SG-1 shouldn't be disappointed.
 
at what time of the series should you watch it? i am way behind with sg-1 at the moment, just watching sg-a
 
You should watch it after the end of Season 10. It takes over from that moment. It won't make much sense if you watch the Ark of Truth before you watch Season 10. (It ties up the unfinished Ori storyline.)

By the way, since Carter is now on 'Atlantis', the Ark of Truth apparently occurred before she went to Atlantis.

I saw it a couple of months ago and thought it was just ok...
 
I bought it the day after it came out and watched it that night. I really liked it. Wasn't too sure about Carter's pony tail, but it grew on me. I just watched season 3 of SG:A on dvd. I don't have time to watch the new season on TV, so I have NO idea what's going on. Anyway, I really liked the movie. It was really true to the show.
 
I haven;t seen Ark of Truth yet, i am getting it this week. But i just watched the last episode of Season 10, it was actually a really good episode, great story line.

What i found amazing is that Ben Browder (Lt Colonel Mitchell) is 45!!!!!!! i thought he was way younger, he's pretty hot for 45 LOL.

and Claudia Black (Vala) is 35, wow! she looks good for her age
 
I watched it yesterday, it was entertaining.

but... just like season 10, this movie's dialogue was poorly written and filled with tired standard cliche's, Teal'cs character attempts to be more than 2 dimensional, but they never succeed.

Stargate just went downhill after Richard Dean Anderson left the show, I just think that he made the show... without him the script is predictable and cliche.

BSG totally blows this franchise out of the water.

Browder is 45? I would have guessed mid 30s!
 
oh i watched a few episodes, even after i fell asleep during the pilot. but the subsequent episodes weren't any better, so i returned to sg ;)

It was bad enough that they changed the Starbuck character into a female, but it really annoyed me that they changed the original Starbuck's (Dirk Benedict) mild oath 'frack' when they find themselves in deep shit into a substitute for 'fuck', and used just as gratuitously.

And what's with all that whispering? Is that supposed to be 'drama'? I've heard of 'quiet on the set', but I didn't know that applied to the actors as well.
 
I dont mean to try and hijack the thread, but I think the appeal of BSG is the darker tone and the depth of the characters. Aesthetically, is also shows us what battles in space would actually look like, as opposed to hearing the laser fire (a la star trek) etc. I think BSG also makes us look into ourselves to see what we would be capable of in a desperate situation.

...but SG also has its appeal.

Oh, I'm sure it has its merits, but I grew up with the original series and was swept up with the campiness of it.

This was back in the days of low-budget model special effects before CGI was affordable. They relied on men dressed in Cyborg suits where the only effects were laser eyes scanning back and forth and the occasional robot-sounding metallic and monotone "By your command".

That was back in the day when the same Viper 'blast off' scene and every space explosion was used in every episode because they couldn't afford to do it twice, but we didn't mind because the shows were fun to watch.

I don't see anything 'fun' about the new series, but that is merely my opinion and preference. I'd watch the original series anytime over the new one, if only to hear such dialogue as 'daggit dribble' and 'felgercarb'.
 
I remember watching shows when I was little and seeing the special effects and thinking they were awesome, but nowadays when I watch them I see how fake and unreal they were. I understand that for its time, the original series had exceptional special effects.

Did you ever see a series called 'The Land of the Lost'? Back when it was new I am sure the effects used were decent, but the special effects in that show would put people today in tears from laughing so hard! A flyswatter???

anyways... back on topic, werent they coming out with 2 movies?

In a word, 'yes'.

I read an interview by Michael Shanks where he mentioned two movies, but he wouldn't say much more than that the first movie would tie up the Ori storyline, which it did.

I suppose, depending upon the success of the first two movies, they may make more of them later.
