I can only speak for Florida but that decision by the Florida legislature was made totally against the will of the people. It was made by a republican legislature based on ideology. Hopefully, the people of Florida will remember this in the 2014 elections and the upcoming gubernatorial election.

Ironically enough, most US retirees now are NOT choosing Florida anymore. It will basically be the Bible Belt in the North, Latinos in the south with a crap ton of internationals [particularly Canadians who own some 500k properties alone in Florida right now] in the middle. Said internationals only live in FLA for 6 months avoiding most taxes required by Florida law. Expect this trend in Florida to continue and have actual residents get fucked over more and more.

Then it's changed since I was there.

But I'd only have to put up with that until my new place was done.
