  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

States you keep forgetting exist

To me, the midwest is a gray area. There never seems to be anything prominent or of national importance happening in any of those states. All I know is that they have mountains and it's cold.

"Mountains in the Midwest" is a phrase from an Owl City song, but you most realize that in that part of the US it's unusual to find even a hill, let alone a mountain ....

For your reference....

The last time I tried, I managed to name all 50 of them. :p

I can think of 3 that a lot of people forget are states:

Alaska - It's so far 'out there' that it doesn't even appear on a lot of maps of the USA. It's citizens aren't eligible for many contests in the USA even though a lot of contests (and television game shows) send Americans on Alaskan cruises.

Hawaii - It's more of a vacation spot (like The Bahamas or Costa Rica or Jamaica) than a state.

New Mexico - It's the only state with the letters 'USA' printed on the license plates to remind Americans that they don't need a passport to visit there:

All the ones that don't have gay marriage.

I always forget about Delaware too! You never hear about anything particularly interesting happening there, and I've never known ANYONE who lived there. So if anybody on this board happens to hail from there, feel free to enlighten me, lol.
Odd since it's been more in the news in the last couple of years, since it's where our Vice President is from.

That's because it's mostly flat as a pancake. Hot as hell in the summer. Cold as the North Pole in the winter. Mostly inhabited by narrow minded Republicans. I'm still shocked Iowa legalized gay marriage. There is hope.

Geloge,

You forgot Euphoria.

Travelling with an American a while back, he asked me (just for conversation sake) if I could name for him:

1. The Northern-most State of the US
2. The Eastern-most State of the US
3. The Southern-most State of the US
4. The Western-most State of the US

Try not to look at an atlas (or google) and see if you can answer it. I was quite surprised by the answers.

It is amazing what all you can forget when you leave the state you

brought up and enter mine !oops!

(UU)(UU)

Living in the peoples republic of Portland, I forget I live in the united states!!!

But what is so cool is you can always move out of the peoples republic of Portland, the only thing keeping you there is yourself for whatever reasons that are satisfactory cause.
.... might find a few more problems doing that if you were living in "The peoples Republic of China".

Most of them, except for California, NY, Washington, Oregon, Massachusetts - the states that have most to do with my life.

Almost invariably, I'm only reminded of the existence of other states for negative reasons - see Arizona.
