To me, the midwest is a gray area. There never seems to be anything prominent or of national importance happening in any of those states. All I know is that they have mountains and it's cold.

Pretty much all of them. I only remember the ones I am talking about but then I forget about them again. I hate those states where the state and the city have the same name. I get so confused. Also I always think that California and Florida are two cities in the same state.

Nope. I know for sure that Alaska's western tip is west of all of Hawaii ("Alaska Time" is also called "Hawaii Time"). I'm not sure about the rest of them.

I try to forget all the ones that participated in the Slaveholders' Rebellion (1861-65). Just because we didn't let them secede from the Union doesn't mean we had to let them keep their statehood. They should all have been converted to unrepresented territories (that is, no congresspeople or senators or right to vote for POTUS and VPOTUS).

No, of course I don't really feel that way. But what I said above is no more annoying to people from those states than what some in this thread have said about the midwest.

That said, Wyoming really is a pretty empty state. I'm told, though, that there are some real gems to be found there if you look...and as for Montana, I met someone from there once, son of a major rancher, who told me "there's no such thing as a straight cowboy." Sounds like it could be fun!

But actually I was mostly talking about their Board of Ed, which because of the size of the Texas school system controls a lot of text books used nationwide. Among other equally horrible things, they directed that there be essentially no mention of Thomas Jefferson in the history texts!

Assholes. And they affect everyone.

But I'm kidding about "is Texas still a state?" Of course they are, and should be.

Let's face it, Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut, is a high school graduate of Phillips Academy in Massachusetts, and an alumnus of both Yale and Harvard. Not to mention his association with the Skull and Bones Society. If you asked a real Texan, they would tell you that is anything but Texan!

True enough, but y'all still elected him Governor of your state. In preference, I might add, to a real actual Texan Texan named Ann Richards, may she rest in peace.

Just on a side note, you might find it rather dubious behavior on my part, if I were to admit to being a high school graduate of the International school of Bangkok, Thailand. LOL

Vermont is my neighboring state.

The population of the entire state is around 511,000 people.

The largest city, Burlington, has a population of around 39,000 people.

It's capital, Montpelier, is the smallest state capital city in the US, with a population of just over 8,000 people. If memory serves me correctly (having visited there several times) the city nearest McDonald's is 11 miles away in Barre, and the nearest Walmart is located in Berlin, VT, three miles outside of the city limits.

Vermont is a state of beautiful mountains, small towns, great skiing in winter, and a lot of local pride. And they are struggling to keep it that way... They love the tourism business for the money it brings in, but they still want to retain the rural, life style.
