I presume that more studies have been done to examine the behaviour of lgbt people in correlation with any negative social views more than the people who spew them.
Again it is a presumption, however if anyone ever has done any kind of studies with just homophobic people what else would it tell us?

Do more than 50% of homophobes also hold discrimination views over other minorities?
Are they more likely to be sexist? racist? anti-semitic? or any other you may think of.

Is their I.Q. lower than say more tolerant people, is it higher?

After multiple examining and questioning do you think that there's a chance a small or general pattern may exist?
Could it be used to help in the argument for gay exceptance?

Or dissapointingly is there nothing of interest within the answers it brings at all?

Well, perhaps it doesn't speak for homophobia specifically, but the tendency is that the more highly educated someone is, the more liberal they are politically. I guess we can assume that the more liberal you are, the more tolerant you may be, whether is be of homosexuality or racial differences.

Of course this is only generalizing, and only one of probably numerous variables that might account for homophobia. I'm going to guess it's more closely related to how someone is raised and in what environment.

I think this is a good point for us, as gay men, to not judge too harshly those who don't really understand homosexuality. I'm not really sure what IQ points have to do with homophobia or any other phobic reaction for that matter. I've known some extremely intelligent people that say the most ridiculous things.

Well, it's notsomuch that intelligent people say stupid things ... or that stupid people are likely to be bigoted.

It's more that all this is an emotional issue, not an intellectual issue. It's true that people who are well-educated are more accepting of differences, but that's because they've been exposed to lots of differences and have figured out that all those different people are not a threat.

I think it's important to draw a distinction between genuine homophobia (fear or hatred of homosexuals) and heterosexism (a sociopolitical system that values opposite sex relationships over same sex relationships). I think it's fair to say that not very many people really harbor the violent ill-will toward homosexuals that genuine homophobia involves, but I think it's very accurate that everybody is affected by heterosexism, and straights' opposition to gay marriage isn't so much about hatred as it is about gays questioning a value system that straights have bought into (without even realizing it) and straights don't know what to make of that questioning, so they naturally want to keep things the same until they know what a change in that value system would mean for everyone.

As noted earlier in this thread, strongly homophobic men are very often homosexual themselves. They're threatened by their own desires because they'll be ostracized if their family/friends find out they're gay, so they lash out at the objects of their own desires.
