I love this quote:

“Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.”
― Stephen King

Great quote!
And thinking about it I kind of agree with him.

I like Harry Potter more, so I'm good with that quote. =D

"I can't support Twilight, as it's basically about a girl's choice between bestiality or necrophilia."

- Jimmy Carr

Is he suggesting that having a boyfriend isn't important?!

Totally agree with him, i watch Potter because of the story and Twilight because of the chests, can't for the life of me see what either of the guys see in, see i've even forgotten what the girl in Twilight is called, she's just a boring self-obsessed whiny sour faced little cow.

Oh good, I thought that was just my perception.

I'm not a huge King fan, although I was a really avid reader of his books and his writing manuals when I did my Masters. A woman I worked beside was a huge fan and put me onto his work. Also, my mentor was a huge fan of King, Koontz and Wolfe. I think he did his PhD or his Masters in the US with Wolfe - sadly forgotten... And he (mentor - not Wolfe) was actually predominantly a children's book writer - sorry, 'author.' He insisted that it was an idiotic argument that distinguished between author and writer. I'm just such an idiot - I loooove theory.

But while King is right (in my opinion) with this comparison and I agree with the claim of Rowling's talent, it irks me no end that Blyton, who devised the formula that is later used in the Potter series, is never acknowledged outside of literary classes for her founding work. Gut wrenching that a writer who has so much money won't recognise her own sources. It doesn't amount to saying she hasn't written amazingly well or that her stories aren't inspired, but credit where credit's due.

"Drinks all round." - Very good!!!

I saw the other boy, the Werewolf one, on a Letterman show last night. Nervously fidgeting, wants to please, easily excitable - so not all bad.

I like Harry Potter the best. I watched Twilight because of Taylor.

Can you imagine Stephen King saying you can't write? That has to be like a hard punch in the gut. :##:
Sorry, Steph.

Even many of her plot points come from the Book of Mormon. It's almost a Mormon allegory.

Let me just say ICK.

I saw the other boy, the Werewolf one, on a Letterman show last night. Nervously fidgeting, wants to please, easily excitable - so not all bad.

He's sweet, and cute, and someday he'll probably learn to act (hey, Tom Cruise did). Also he looks good with his shirt off. And his ass is to die for.

He'll go far, in other words. Early-career trash doesn't completely ruin a career in general.

Yeah, he'll do well.

But about Tom Cruise... Acting? Okay, he went through a period when some of his films showed varying personas, but then all his characters became one character - Tom Cruise. It's better if the 'actor' actually personifies the character as suggested by the writers, I feel. You are a very generous spirit, Críostóir.

And I'll be generous with my assessment of Taylor's abilities, too, most likely. :D

LOL Sam.

You know, TC's fellow actors rate him very highly. Michael Caine once called him the most underrated actor in Hollywood; an actress who worked with him said that after doing a love scene with him, "he goes off to his trailer, and you're in therapy for six months." (That meant she found his technique convincing, distressingly so.)

I like Harry Potter the best. I watched Twilight because of Taylor.

Maybe I'm weird, but Daniel Radcliffe fully clothed gets more of a rise out of me than Taylor Lautner without a shirt. Robert Pattinson doesn't do anything for me, either.

Guess that's why I have no desire whatsoever to watch any of the Twilight movies.
