I dunno I have always found that if you tip well, especially bartenders you get comps a lot of the time. It is give and take. I will not tip a shitty server though.....

It has nothing to do with the attractiveness of the server (at least not consciously) - just the service. Average service gets 20%, more gets more, less gets less.

I almost always tip very well, not matter if it is a male or female.

i always tip well if the service sucked then i tip 15% otherwise its alway about half the bill. i used to be a waiter so i know they live on tips.

i don't think it has anything to do with being gay though all of my ex's were tight wads.

i had a pizza delivered the other day and the driver actually called me an hour later to tell me she had just seen what i tipped and wanted to say thanks.

but i didn't vote in the poll. none of those fit for me.

I think it's false.

Unless the customer is an A-hole, good service from your server should
equal at least a 20% tip. Often times more.

I don't think it's a 'gay thing'.

Back in my waiter days, I waited on many gay couples, and although they
we're usually more fun to chat with, (prolly 'cause we had a lot in common)
most of them didn't tip any better or worse than anyone else. Unless of course on the occasion where they were interested in something that wasn't on the menu, if you know what I'm sayin'. (Ahh, the good ol' days)

Conversely, there's this seafood place Keith and I go to at least 2 or 3 times a month...And we always ask for 'Jeff's tables' Because 1), he's a great waiter, and 2) He's *very* easy on the eyes and there's a good chance that
well...things are progressing nicely, let's just say.

Our bill is usually around 80 bucks, and we usually leave him $25 in cash.

(God, that sounds really sleazy now that I've typed it out...lol)

I tip at least 20% in restaurants, more in bars. Ironic, considering that I think bartenders make a lot better percentages than waiters for less "work." Plonking down a single for a $2.25 beer is WAY more than 20% (nearly 50%)

I've always considered generous tipping to be the result of the many years I've spent waiting tables, not because I'm gay.

I NEVER tip based on the waiter's appearances (but I WILL tip based on the appearance of the restaurant around me - I hate to see dirty tables), and I never stiff.

If service is absolutely horrendous, I will leave exactly three pennies. There's old diner legend about pennies left with bills as a tip: 1 penny=excellent service, 2 pennies=average service, 3 pennies=terrible service. So if service is REALLY bad they get the three pennies and nothing else. Then they have no reason to think that I must have just forgot to tip.

I always tip well, especially if it's a cute waiter or bartender, but because most of my friends waited tables at some point in their life (and I know what they went through) it's plain courtesy to tip them well.

There was a scene in a movie or TV show (I can't remember which one) where the character placed a bunch of dollar blls on the table and told the waitress this was the potential tip -- a dollar would be taken away for bad service, or added for good service.

As for me, I leave 15 to 20%

I usually tip well. I usually tip a little extra if I think the person is gay or lesbian, but not based on looks. (Unless ... well, I'm allowed to be a little shallow.) I figure that we need to look out for each other.

I tip at least 15%+ (depending on my abacus skills at the tyme)

+ my friend Eddie tips very well - & I know -4- sure he is not gay because we have spent many a late night just hangin' out and chatten'--what a great friend Ed is -- I love him so

I tip based upon service
not looks or gayness

However

I do not understand the tip jar at starbucks or otehr fast food places

I never put money in a tip jar - no tips for counter service.

Otherwise, the tip starts out at 20% and goes down for poor service regardless of the server's looks. Similarly, if I have some special requests and the server is friendly and prompt in fulfilling them, they get tipped higher.

One sure way to get a lousy tip from me - leave my water glass sit empty.

Yes, I do over tip. More than 25%. If I'm at a bar and I get a beer that costs $3.00 (expample) I will leave a $2.00.

You're a generous man elvin1, a good example for us cheap bastards to follow.

Seriously, for me tipping is a political issue. Food servers are generally at the bottom of the pay scale, often earning only minimum wage. Also, at least in my state, their tips are being taxed. Theres no way for cheating either, management has a scale to follow on declaring tips given food servers [which is bs, cause theres cheap bastards out there that NEVER tip].

I admit I tip on performance; the better the service, the bigger I tip. I also tip HIGHER if I suspect the food server to be gay.

I try to tip 20% or more in restaurants as I know the waiters depend on tips for most of their compensation. If the service is really good, I tip more especially if the waiter is good looking and flirts. I figure it is worth it for the entertainment and the attention. I am an extremely good tipper in a gay bar. I also have an unusual twist in tipping. When tipping smaller amounts for drinks or the cute bag boy at the grocery store, I use $2 bills. That tends to differentiate you from others and people remember you. It is a neat little twist I enjoy doing.

waiting tables is hard work..........I know because I've done it in more than one establishment...........I worked my tail for a few $$$$$$ in tips............geez it was good to know when the customers appreciated my hard work...............

I often tip well, because of having been a server for 14 years. Having been a server it is easy to tell if your server is giving you good service or not. It is usually 25% or more with me. If it is bad service It is only about 15% and I let the server know why, but I also give them a chance to redeem themselves when I visit that restaurant in the future.

I always tip at least two bucks, generally I don't base it on how much my purchase came too though. I will not tip if the service was bad, and it takes a lot to get me irritated enough to not tip.

At one of my jobs right now (work 2 full time), I can eat lunch and dinner on just tips from that day. If I decide to eat at home, I usually save up tips from that week and deposit them to my savings. I've taken in as much as $74 in a week!
