Just because i watch Desperate housewives doesnt make me gay, although one of my friends became my gay friend due to the show.

I was watching it one day and he came in the lounge and said "Newboy12 i never you were gay", much to my shock.

My friend is very forward and always says whats on his mind but not everybody is like that so do you suppose that if someone sees you watching a particular show that they would assume your sexuality?

I used to like Will and Grace and didnt care where i watched it and who was seeing me because its a comedy and it was funny. W&G was the #1 comedy in America for 4 years so am i to believe that all of America is gay just because they watch the show. Heck even the main character Will is straight man in real life.

Why cant a person just enjoy good TV without being stereotyped as gay.

I see it in music too. Say a young man likes pop music and Britney and Madonna, and Cher , lots of people would automaticlally think they are gay but thats not always the case. Why cant it just be about the music? why does sexuality have to come into play?

I am not going to pretend to like and watch football just because its the "man thing" to do.

I will continue to watch figure skating (Although not so much since Michelle isnt competitive anymore) and tennis and i dont care what people want to think.

I also wont stop watching the Golden Girls. Comedy is comedy and shouldnt be an indication of sexual orientation.

I think I'll put on my Judy Garland records the next time that hunky delivery man comes to the house. If "Desperate Housewives" got you a gay friend, Judy Garland should get me a hot stud.

I agree about "The Golden Girls". It's one of my favorites.

I love Desperate Housewives (season 2 was a little blah except for Gaby and Bree's story lines). I honestly didn't know it was stereotyped as a show gay guys like. Will & Grace's only good seasons were 3, 4 & 5. I was never ashamed to watch it in the living room with my parents right there in the room. I've been watching figure skating since 3rd or 4th grade but have been and always will be a bit embarrassed to watch it with people in the room. Another "gay" show I watch but will NEVER be ashamed to say I'm OBSESSED with is America's Next Top Model!!!! I talk about that show with a couple of girls at work all the time and I don't give a flying fuck who hears me! I will forever be a fan of that show!!!

Yes season 2 was sub par but Bree had some good episodes, i thought that Marcia should have gotton an emmy nomiination for the episode were she changed Rex's tie at the funeral or the one at Danielle's party where she did the stare down to find out who smudged the cake lol funny stuff.

Lol Funny story about Americas Next Top model. The season during last fall was fun and i used to watch it but so did some other girls, lol so i was in a computer lab one day and i overheard some girls talking about it and were asking who got kicked off last night and who would win, and me without thinking jumped into their conversation and basically took it over spouting my opinions and everything, only to later realise that i had practically just outed myself to these girls because why on earth would a straight man be so into ATM?

A couple of days later i was blasting Madonna's "confessions on a dancefloor" on my stereo and people were giving me looks, they never said anything to me but i knew what they were thinking.

Yes i was watching the US figure skating championships with a gay friend when all of a sudden these people just came in the lounge to watch TV. I didnt change the channel because Michelle hadnt skated yet but i was hella embarassed lol i dont know why.

Its a sport technically right and its difficult so i dont know why i felt weird watching it with all these straight guys. And there were kinda joking about it, because someone walked in and said "what are we watching?" and then one of the guys that were there said "figure skating because thats how we do" i wanted to run away lol, but i didnt i waited until michelle skated and then we left the room.

The only good thing about me watching figure skating was that 1 week later one of the straight guys that saw me watching it came over to me and said "so you watch figure skating huh, wanna suck me off later after basketball practice? i'll be in the last shower stall around 7 so if your interested you know where to find me". He gave me a wink and walked away. If i wasnt intrigued and turned on i would have cursed him out and affirmmed heterosexuality.

Regardless of the "perks" of stereotypical programming i still think people should be able to watch what they want without anyone assuming their sexual orientation.

I don't think watching anything is any proof of sexual orientation. Would all the women who watch football games with their bfs/husbands be classified as lesbians under the same logic? Absolutely not. It's just that a lot of people just assume things based on stereotypes, and they're idiotic for it.

I was watching it one day and he came in the lounge and said "Newboy12 i never you were gay", much to my shock.
Well if he called you Newboy12, maybe he just saw you on this website and it has nothing to do with Desperate Housewives :p.

I don't know how many straight guys watched Queer as Folk...maybe for the lesbian sex scenes.

But otherwise...

I watch and listen to what I like...that's what you watch tv for and listen to music for, because you like it. With my artistic ways, and appreciation for all music, I don't think most people assume I'm gay because I like a certain type of music or certain singer's music...but if they do assume, well they're right in this case (only). Unless it's entertainment which focuses on sexually arousing you (porn), then it shouldn't matter who watches or what their orientation is.

Dude, I perfectly identified with exactly EVERY WORD you typed! LOL

So these girls were talking about Project Runaway and i interjected about the show and they were looking at me all weird like im gay.

Then one girl said

"newboy12 you watch Project Runway"

yes i do whats the problem?

Nothing, just dont know many straight guys that watch project runaway.

It was so embarassing

Why do people have to associate sexuality with good TV?

If a show is good quality and interesting why cant a guy watch it without him being gay??

I totally understand what you mean.

My dad listens to Tina Turner & Madonna, and he's straight as an arrow.

It's just that a lot of people just assume things based on stereotypes, and they're idiotic for it.

I disagree, it's human nature to judge and stereotype. When you see people in public, don't lie, you size them up, make assumptions and label them. I do.

Doesn't make us bad, just makes us human. It's the people that bluntly announce stereotypes whether they are right or wrong that piss me off.

So i was watching a soap opera today and this lady walks in the room and all of a sudden i became so self concious, granted she watched it too but she is a woman. I can just imagine what she was saying in her head, "Wow he must be so gay to be watching a soap opera"

So what if i am watching a soap opera, big deal, why does what i watch have to determine my sexuality. So what all the actors on the soap opera are gay men, No, sometimes they deal with topical storylines and sometimes i just want a break from my reality, no big deal but i just knew she was thinking i was gay.

Just because a guy watches a soap opera doesnt make him gay, people need to stop steretyping

If this were the case, I'd worry alot considering some of the stuff I watch and listen to...

sorry but your friend didn't become gay because of desperate housewives.

It must be great to be you though, your only worry seems to be whether or not people think you are what you are.

Um... you are gay. I don't see the problem. Granted, people should not assume that a guy is gay purely because he watches soap operas and fashion shows, but in this case the stereotype is correct. Case in point:

Lately i have been attracted to straight, very skinny guys wearing tight fitting jeans. I find them so sexy i just wanna walk up to them and say take me now lol.

Hey guys i was wondering if anybody else has ever gotton the urge to grab a strangers crotch especially when they have a well formed bulge, but you restrain yourself so that you don't end up in the intensive care unit. I ask because today this guy was walking towards me and he was wearing polyester shorts with no underware and you could see it clearly printed out and he was hot too. But i had to hold back lol.

The sooner you accept yourself and stop seeing your sexuality as a problem, the sooner you'll stop freaking out about people assuming the truth. (*8*)

There's definitely certain shows I won't tell people I watch because they'll think I'm gay because I watch them. I'm still completely in the closet though so thats why. Here's the shows I won't admit to watching, in order of gayness:

Queer As Folk
The View
Desperate Housewives (though my cousin saw me watching that and said 'eva longoria is hot!')
Gilmore Girls (but a friend got me into watching that show, so she knows I watch it)

Oh yeah, I put those shows (except QAF because it's not current) on my facebook a couple weeks ago. I guess I don't care since no one will read that anyway.

So last night i was listenning to my Britney Spears CD in the car and the gas attendant, said, "Dude are gay?"

So then i said, "excuse me?"

Then he said, "Only teenage girls and gay men listen to Britney"

So then i said, " Toxic, Baby One More Time and Oops I did it again were the number one songs in the country so are you saying that all of america is gay?

Then he said, "Dude i just wanted to know if you are gay so i could give you my number, you didnt need to launch a defence case"

Oh well he was cute so i took his digits.

Lesson - though its never cool to assume a persons sexuality based on the music or shows they watch, sterotyping can get you a date with a hot guy.
