The really interesting thing about these rallies is how they got started in the first place. Neither Stewart nor Colbert came up with the idea. It was, in fact, the users of the site Reddit.com who came up with the idea in response to Glenn Beck's rally. They wanted to do a counter-rally to his insane cult's fantasia.

The Redditors worked hard and Colbert even sent them a message saying how he was humbled and honored by their efforts to make this happen. It was pretty freakin' cool to learn that this was really going to happen!

A few days later after it was confirmed on Reddit, the two hosts announced their rallies on their programs which was then picked up, as you can see, by CNN.

INTERNET!

How do you go if your boyfriend is apolotical? And all the nudging you did to get him interested in current events didn't actually convince him to give a damn?

That's my predicament. I'd love to go to Dupont Circle too with him...

I guess I would approach it from the aspect, that you sit down with him, and tell him its important to you and you really want to go with him. Maybe you should make it a long-weekend, and the only political thing you do together is the rally. Other than that, that will be the only political stuff he will need to deal with.

You like/love this guy for who he is, so it's unfair to ask him to change, and "give a damn", and you shouldn't ask such of him. What is fair to ask is a compromise whereby you both "give a little" in order to get what you all want.

D.C. is a great place to spend a long weekend, especially as a gay couple, and eat & drink yourselves fat and happy. Plus there's a million things to do. (If you do go I would recommend to make sure you have time to go to the National Museum of the American Indian, as it's brand new and only open like 5 years ago.)

I think I would rather watch Rachel Maddow do a striptease than to go to that.

So you admit you don't like moderate-thinking, rational people who are tired of extremes?

It's really sad that we have JUBbers out on the wings, some farther than others, but when you look at their lives about all they actually care about, regardless of what policies they support, is making their own lives nice and having a good time. But at least some are interested in going to a gathering to make the statement that Congress should be working together to get things done, that the body politic should not be yanked around by wildly flapping wings but move forward even if we have to ground the whole bird and walk.

As a Libertarian I'll go where liberty can get furthered. If I weren't on the edge of being homeless, I'd head for DC in a flash, because regardless of what the politics of the people holding this rally may be, the rally itself is a step toward sanity.

Though in the final analysis, I'd rather see Rachel Maddow do a striptease AND go to the rally.

hence my post ;)

this is a big thing for a few weeks already at various web communities. a lot of people are quite excited about this .. let's see how this turns out :)

I wondered a bit that it didn't show up here earlier.

Also worth mentioning is that the reddit users rose more than $ 250k already ..

why are you guys talking to coolkid anyway? He's just saying crap to get a response.

I am not a giggling schoolgirl.

No, and none of the other highly educated and pretty sophisticated audience that Stewart and Colbert command are, either.

They are entertainers for people who like to think, not right wing bobble heads.

You're about to go homeless?! Gee, doesn't sound like that Obama hope and change is working out for you.

Nice. Really nice. It is interesting how we went from some bewildered guy into video-taping to some toxic trash talking tea party db.

I always wanted to go there when I've been in DC as well as this seafood harbor across from the Nationals' ballpark.

Thanks for the tips too. I will try to [STRIKE]coerce[/STRIKE] tell my beau how much this means to me and hope he won't be there in spirit only.

I am so amused when Conservatives ask the rhetorical "How's that hope and change working out for you?".

Seems to me that they would be balling up a storm if the Democrats had their way and had over 60 seats in the Senate. They wouldn't know what to do with themselves and would likely go on a shooting rampage throughout the country. Maybe they should be grateful that not all that much has really changed.

And speaking of which, being that not all that has really changed .... can someone explain to me why the Right has been so whipped up into a foaming frenzy? Not that much has really changed, and yet they act like Armageddon is coming. Go figure. You know, if I didn't know better, I would suggest that there was some other element involved in this that is fueling their immaturity ... but what do I know.

I will be in DC for this.

they WANT to win back the congress, KNOW the senate is out of reach thanks to the nutty teabaggers, and now if things continue and the baggers keep getting nuttier, they will lose hope of even gaining that, even though in a mid term , it is considered almost unavoidable.

Now someone comes along, a comedian or two, who act and sound more reasonable than they could ever hope to.

I think they are all nuts and really I am sure before its over with, something is litterally going to blow up OR someone is going to get shot that they don't like.

The brietbart incident and their refusal to own that their guy has been engaging in deceit and propaganda is one of the biggest indicators that they all KNOW what's happening and their hatred for ONE MAN fuels them. The new mantra is that they were around while bush was in office.

If that is the case then they are double liars and losers, because they didn't throw these fits until Obama took office.

In otherwords... their beliefs were intentionally marginalized BY THEM because a republican WHO CAUSED the PROBLEM was in office.

I think they are sad, ignorant, and dangerous.

I'd pay to watch. She's very good looking. And she'd make it classy.

I'm going. If anyone else from around the Atlanta area wants to go, hit me up. :)

It is like a bunch of preteen girls here.

They cant wait to meet their TV 'star'.

LOL, out of all the people that will be there, there's very little chance I will get to meet Stewart of Colbert.

This is partly about showing the media that hardcore right wingers are not the only people that make up the political spectrum this year.

^ Don't expect any of the paid, straight Foxarrazzi who troll these boards to understand or applaud the idea of this rally.

They see that it only exposes their nasty, cynical and self-serving Beckapalooza for what it was. A collection of poorly educated whites angry about having a black man in the White House...funded by the Koch brothers and Fox news who have their own agenda.

Question for the people who are going:

Are you going to scream like a preteen girl at a Jonas concert when Stewart speaks?

"Star"?

The only kinds of "stars" I ever want to meet are the ones i can't stand, so I can give them a piece of my mind.

For example, I'd love to meet Mr. John "Can't stand the Bill of Rights" McCain, or "Don't have the balls to kick Congress' ass" Obama. But Stewart? Sometimes he makes me laugh, and sometimes he makes a good point -- hardly enough to get ga-ga over.

I'd say your post reveals more about you, pixel: you are so lacking in anything substantive to say and the skill with which to say it, if you did, that you resort to juvenile taunts.

Huh -- that almost puts you in the category of people I'd like to meet.

An inspiring typo... I wonder if I can work "the Stewart of Colbert" into my JUB story? "Colbert" sounds French, so why would a Stewart hold the place? and using that referent suggests that there's a different Stewart out there.....

* files for future use *

Quoted for truth.

But it does reveal that the far right is just frantic; they've got nothing.

You guys need to oust Brown. He publicly stated he would not filibuster the Defense bill, then he did. The prick.
