Actually, I was very honest with my ex about my curiosity. He didn't understand it but was supportive, even joining me when I attended a Bi Discussion Group.

gaydude65: After being an interested lurker for so long I decided based on this thread to join and comment. I also wanted to say that I really appreciate and completely agree with everything you've written. It's unfortunate we don't live in a society where sexual orientation and labels don't matter, but we do live in one where they do matter. I have come to the realization though that there are a number of men who false self-identify as gay who are actually bisexual. I don't know how large that number is but I've encountered enough of these type of men and researched the phenomenon enough to know it's real. I've often wondered why they false self-identify and have found some reasons--the most common one being the time spent cultivating a gay identity. I imagine it is equally as tough to come out as bisexual after having lived life for so long as gay as it is for us gay men to come out altogether. When this does happen one risks losing gay friends and community. Oddly though I can personally understand why the gay friends would feel alienated--something I'm still trying to reconcile.

I must echo your astonishment though-- I have yet to see a definition anywhere by any objective social science source or gay or lesbian organization that includes the statement or idea that being gay is about/because it is easier to get laid without strings attached.

My husband and I will celebrate 27 years this fall. Before he came out he had sex with several women and to this day he often states that he wouldn't touch one, even with a 10 foot pole, ever again. My point being is he was able to find sex with women without strings attached when he played it straight and to him it wasn't the ease or number that defined his false straightness.

In one of your early posts back to last summer you stated your involvement with the community began with a bisexual organization and then you reveal in this thread that you attended a bisexual discussion group with your ex. I want to congratulate you for the courage to finally acknowledge, what became quickly obvious to the outside observer, that you are indeed bisexual. Unfortunately bisexuals get treated poorly by many gay men because many gay men are forced to use bisexuality as a precursor to coming out openly gay. It's not an excuse for the poor treatment and hopefully one day it will change.

I talk to alot of gay seniors, you would not believe the horror they tell me. Two of them are partnered with women, not because they love them it's because no gay person wanted them after they turned 55. Re: sex is just sex to most guys. I only fell in love with two guys the rest were just booty calls! Some gay men won't identify with you because you are able to be with women by choice, and not by threats of violence, or therapy.
 
Yea dude65, what you said is true but those are my experiences. Yes the clubs, and bars are "confidence" killers. If you don't have a six pack they scream NEXT!
