Yes, logically, you're bi if you're into both genders. But not everyone sees that point. It depends. When I first meet someone and they tell me they're gay, I'll accept that on face value. I'm a strong advocate for labels and respect when they're used correctly. You've articulated well on some very clear reasons why some men who self-identify as gay but enjoy sex with women too will avoid using the bisexual label or seeing themselves as bisexual.

I would recommend a word of caution though. You enjoy life in a country where gays, lesbians, and bisexuals are full citizens. Here in the U.S. we're still fighting for that existence in total. In a perfect world it wouldn't matter who is doing who or what in relation to sexuality--but politically, socially, and legally here in the U.S. it does.

I think most would be shocked because I have a reputation for being militantly gay (politically). Some would be repulsed. Many (especially many of the gay friends who have sustained me all these years) would feel betrayed and hurt.

Also, there is the presumption that if you have a choice you would naturally choose the hetero right and view gay as kinky. Such was not the case for me. Gay feels natural and my bi/hetero or whatever you call it tendencies is the thing that feels kinky or forbidden tome (I know that sounds odd).
