Ask yourself this, if you went up to a straight woman and asked her to blow you, do you think she would be offended? The same goes for a gay man, or for any man or woman for that matter. The fact that you would expect that person to take a sexual act so lightly would be offensive because you're implying that they have lax morals. It's not a matter of their orientation, it's a matter of how seriously this roommate views sex. If they're like me and see it as a sacred act reserved only for their significant other (existent currently or not), they'll probably feel like punching you. As far as your roommate, I would ask him for ideas about how you can explore your sexuality, if I were you. Asking him, at least immediately, would be slightly offensive as it would be assumed or expected that he would want to have anything to do with you, sexually.
Without joining the analysis of your orientation, I'd suggest just making it clear to your roomie that you are broadminded - in fact, if it doesn't embarrass him you'd like to talk to him a bit about man on man sex...not because you just want to be nosey - but that, even tho' you regard yourself as straight, you do find yourself a bit curious about maybe trying something yourself.
