Straight Girl's Guide to JUB... er, Gay Bars

I go to bars were women are an unusual sight or even banned from entering.

Imho women in leatherbars can work, but the whole place needs a different attitude than usually happens there.

Instead of watching the video, I followed links to Zack's posts. I think some of the guys who post on JUB would benefit from his advice. Zack has some good answers about open relationships, butt sex, and attitudes.

I mean because of useful posts, not needy JUBbers.

I think I want to find a bi bar that plays rock music.

^ most good gay rock parties turn into a more or less bi rock party in the long run. it sometimes can be annoying. but "sorry, I'm not into men, I'm just here for the music" actually is a good thing, too.

I guess this is just me growing up in smaller cities, but the whole phenomenon of a town having a gay scene that can support more than one or two gay bars is a little novel. Most of the places I've been a regular of had both ladies who like ladies & men who like men as patrons.

(Actually the best joint I ever frequented was a gay bar two blocks down from the goth club night, and when that closed they joined us, too. It made for a peculiar combination of music, but fun fun fun.)

The article reads like a bitter queen having her period...but then again I don't have a problem with straights at gay bars or gays at straight bars.

I guess some gay guys think of JUB as the mega-disco, whereas I think of it as the leather/fetish bar.

That would actually make it better...

I liked the article and agree with the author. Would have added "don't take your hen party to a gay bar, ever", though. A gaggle of drunk women in 'risqué' outfits trying to get the gay guys to eat candy off of the bride-to-be's tits is the LAST thing I want to encounter at a gay bar (and yes, it's happened).

Amen on the "keep your fucking bachelorette parties out of our bars, this isn't your zoo."

I don't think it's "fear" as much as "stop treating me like your personal eunuch."

What makes me so pissed is when women act like being supportive of our rights is a license to come get in our space when we're trying to get laid. Yes, thanks for coming to the Prop 8 rally and I'm glad you're on my side but right now I'm not wanting to make inroads with the straight female community, I want to meet a guy or just have a couple hours of time with other gay men where I don't have to be a political activist.

(and most women in gay bars don't act like that but sadly, there is a growing number who do. Ever since having "a gay" has become a trendy thing, gay bars are filled with Paris Hilton look-alikes who think that the rules in gay bars are the same as they are in mainstream or "straight" bars. They think it means they can make that high-pitched "woooo" sound on the dance floor and have people think it's cute, force their way to the front of the line at the bar or go into the men's bathroom.)

Wow, now I can't even go to gay bars to get away from straight people. Good to know.

Did you read my response or skim through it?

The "fear" comment was in response to the idea that people are averse to a gay bar that includes lesbians, not merely straight women.

Ah... got it.

I mean, to be honest, I'm not always into partying with lesbians and women... I love going to the Eagle for Beer Bust when it's hot and sticky and the beer is flowing and the men are all revved up and there's an energy in the air. One woman walking in will ruin it.

There's a dynamic when a bunch of gay men who mean business get together and THAT is why places like that exist.

There's a place for us all but there's also places where not all of us are welcome. I'm sure there are plenty of places where a gay biker metal head asshole like me would wreck the mood. So I won't go.

or why just the mere presence of a woman would be a horrible thing.
Because of their judgement. "No, don't take this one! I think that guy over there is cuter! Why don't you just take me?" or "Eww, you are gay? You don't look attractive enough! Can't you wear better clothes?".

In the end, if I were to follow the girls' opinions, I'm wearing designer clothes and go out with a clean-shaved, dark-haired guy with blue eyes instead of wearing my street fashion and cuddling with a bald-headed bear.

Not that many gays and lesbians aren't judgemental and snotty as well.

:help:

I just think they deserve to be treated the way they treat us.

That would actually make it better...

This is one of the reasons I live in Amsterdam.

Amen on the "keep your fucking bachelorette parties out of our bars, this isn't your zoo."

Dutch women -thank God- are individualistic and just sit their ass down on the street when they're drunk, so it isn't that much of a problem.

Do they do whore off's with Mister Slave as well?

Wow, now I can't even go to gay bars to get away from straight people. Good to know.

You can if you go to a bar that doesn't suck.

I never got that. If I were a biker metal head, I'd go into any bar I wanted, act politely, and anyone who judged me for my appearance would be free to go fuck themselves. I always tend to approach these situations differently, though.

OK, bar, maybe. But I wouldn't go to say... one of those Tea Parties for Little Girls places in full gear. Or to one of those kid's arcades or a church picnic.
