Sounds like he deserved it.
Forced to perform a blow job, and then castrated...and you call it a "weird turn of events"?
Lex
This happened in Forest City, Arkansas, which is not far from Memphis. The events detailed in the link above were frequently in the papers and on the news in Memphis for many years. Public opinion was divided on whether he had committed the rape or not. When he was hog-tied and castrated, that made the news as well.
There was controversy about whether or not the sheriff had anything to do with the castration, but no one could prove anything. Then someone noticed that the sheriff kept something in a jar on his desk. When he was asked what it was, he replied, "DuMond's balls." Eventually, the authorities were notified about it, but when they went to his office to confront the sheriff, they could not find the evidence, so nothing was ever done about it. No one was ever charged with DuMond's castration.
Eventually, with the lack of DNA evidence for the rape and the fact that he had been castrated, led to public outcry, and petitiions were drawn up requesting that DuMond be released from prision. He was finally released from jail in 1999. In 2000, he married a woman from a church group that had visited him when he was in prison, but then he was arrested again a year later for the murder of another woman. There were a lot of angry people who felt betrayed that they had worked so diligently on obtaining his freedom, only to have him blow his second chance a year and a half after he was set free. He was sentenced to life in prison again in 2004. A year later, he died in prison of cancer of the vocal cords.
