Straight Guy Greetings

Hey BearBoi, sorry I didn't respond sooner, your post was really insightful and made me think a lot.

I remember having crushes on guys as far back as 1st grade… so clearly some of us realize our sexual identities at a young age. However, even as a child who didn’t understand what ‘sex’ was, I had an almost instinctual understanding that my feelings should be kept hidden. People think kids are dumb, but they aren’t. They are quite aware. Cinderella and the Price live happily ever after; men chase women on TV and in movies; boys kiss girls on billboards and magazine covers… back when I was a kid, ‘gay’ isn’t something you saw or ever heard about. (Except maybe on a very special episode of the Golden Girls or Designing Women.)

Thinking about stuff like that was what made me come around. My sexual identity came around the time I was in first grade, why wouldn't it be that way for gays? It's obviously born in to a person, especially when you account for people like you. You just learned by yourself what your sexual identity was, homosexuality wasn't even something you were really aware of. Haters need to start opening up their minds. Once I realized that gays were just born attracted to other guys romantically and physically the same way I'm attracted to women, it really opened up my mind and made me a better person.

To SubmissiveSteve: We dress this way because we straights have absolutely no fashion sense. But come on, you already knew that. The straight guys you'll find that actually care about their clothes are frat boys, and they just like to dress like complete dicks. I just have like 15 shirts and 10 pairs of pants or so, and try to find a combination that doesn't clash. I'm getting a little more refined in shoes, I at least have a few pairs for different occasions.

I thought it might be to attract a mate, as they always say on the Nature Channel when they can't explain some creature's strange behavior. You know, some kind of signal, so if straight women see a guy wearing stripes with plaid, or black socks with sandals, they'll know he is heterosexual and therefore potentially available for breeding.

Or perhaps it appeals to her desire to fix someone. Obviously the man is pathetically unaware of fashion and needs a woman to help him!

Come to think of it, that may be why women keep hitting on me. I pretend not to notice.

We see eye to eye on the whole issue of gays and gay rights.

We should be free ro love whom ever we choose, after all, we don't love the gender, we love the person. If the rest of the world saw it that way, we'd see a complete and total 180 in the way people thought about each other.

Hey, I'm a straight guy, I just stumbled across this sight looking for message boards to troll while trying to figure out how other people live. You know, step outside the box. I totally dig this site and the people, you all are really cool!

To get in to my history a bit(and you'll think I was a jerk, I kind of was), I have always been very straight, I remember having crushes on girls back in 1st grade. I didn't know what homosexuality was for a long time, growing up in a conservative small town. When I did find out about homosexuality I gave in to the views of my peers and took the typical straight male "hate all gays and all things gay" attitude.

But then I actually met some gay people. I joined the army right after high school, and I met several gay people in the military who were mostly open(just not to the higher ups), and functioned just fine with all of us, even in the extremely conservative environment of the military. I daresay they were even the more popular people. And none of us ever said anything or made a formal report, even when everyone knew that person was gay.

I tried to experiment once during a bad breakup thinking "I could just be gay everything would be better, at the very least it'd be easier to get laid", but once I arrived to meet the guy I realized I truly was straight. I thought I could do it but upon arriving to meet him I had an un-boner(I'm sure a good amount of you feel the same way with women.)I couldn't go through with it or do any thing at all. I made some excuse to go to my car and drove off right after arriving and saying hello.

Any way, I should wrap this up soon, but long story short, I thought of something: "what if I had been born attracted to guys in the same way that I'm attracted to girls now?" I wouldn't fight it, and I certainly wouldn't want someone to hate me for who I chose to love or whom I'm attracted to, or tell me who I could or couldn't marry.

You say that you've trolled a few other forums to "figure out how other people live." This is interesting to me. Besides gay forums, what other types of forums have you been to? Did you learn anything from your times there, as well?

Probably true, but you have to remember that this is primarily a porn portal. Personally I use the fora all the time and hardly visit the porn sections, but the fora are an adjunct, not the main purpose of the site.

yeah, it's not so black and white as being born with straight/gay desires because I've had both growing up and am gay now... the most trusted opinion is that it's nature AND nurture, but both sides forget that. Binary thinking is so easy and blinding, isn't it? And what about bisexuality? Sexual desires tend to be polarising, that is, we tend to like one and not the other, but for bisexuals,like straight and gay, we uniquely "learn" what turns us on or off by aversions according to our own uniqueness.
