It was merely a suggestion - if you're going to string a paragraph together it would help for all of us to be able to read it clearly first time, you know? Bearing in mind we're not all native English speakers on here.

Just something to consider if you want to contribute to the board - the joke's on you if you go into something lengthy and nobody could be fagged to decipher it after two lines so it gets ignored. Perhaps I'm just too old school - I can only type one way. I can't manage to switch on textspeak for the internet and revert back to proper English for my PhD thesis; my brain simply doesn't cope with it.

While I will read through the "text lingo" that is amongst these boards, it is rather annoying and shows a lack of typing skills, which leads to me believing they are unintelligent.

I believe you should type as you speak. :/

Look, simply put, some of our members do not use English as a home language and they struggle enough with proper, grammatically correct English as it is without the txtspk and the various memes and whatever else is attached. I'm suggesting for their sakes, as well as the poster who might struggle to put his point across because many of us cannot make sense of what he has written, that a more standardised approach be adopted. Just because you or I can make sense of it doesn't mean all 100 000 members can. PhD or not, that's the difference here.

I have seen posts on here asking for opinions or advice which were basically one long grammarless unpunctuated collection of words peppered with unnecessary and inappropriately placed LOLs and OMGs which might well have been sneezed out onto the screen in paragraph format. The replies basically amounted to "...what?" because nobody could really be sure that their interpretation of the post was what the OP intended to communicate. So how much advice could be offered? How much assistance could anyone give?

None, that's how much.

Having said that I refuse to assume that just because it's the internet, or a text message, we have to dumb down our language and communication to make a point, in much the same way as a movie can still be a comedy without a fart joke or someone getting a pie in the face.

It's up to you at the end of the day, of course.

That bit is in my adopted 2nd language Afrikaans, not Dutch, and a perfectly acceptable, bastardised, modern Capetonian dialect thereof, not translatable properly by any online translator. All of which rather neatly sums up my point - cheers!

Sorry, I didn't knew that Afrikaans was that different. Everybody makes errors in their lines, but not me. I make a lot of them.

On topic: A teacher on my former school had something gayish around him. He's maried and has 3 kids. Besides teaching math, he also works at a gym.
